Ben,
The attached needs no explanation. We
have many patriots supporting America-many of them are not
American.
Hi,
The following is from our
friend, “Lucky.” He is a college professor in Holland and one of the thousands
of “re-enactors,” who are the guys with the US vehicles and US uniforms . All,
to my experience, have been great supporters of America, in spite of much media
controversy. Lucky owns two jeeps and a third under construction. He by the way
also owns a vintage 1936 ? Volkswagen (an actual and running original bug), from
when every German family had to contribute $ 600 to the military with the
promise of obtaining one after the “successful” war. Lucky is a great gentleman
whom I only know as “Lucky.”
“Hi Gene,
I am
very glad to read you finally got your plan together, so first of all enjoy your
trip. I am also sure there will be many people
delighted to know you're coming back to the place where you landed at the 15th
of august 1944, very early in the morning. Just one thing, don't let your
opinion get too much influenced by the media. I know there is most people in
Europe still very grateful about the fact that you guys came to liberate us from
the Nazi Regime in the forties. The problem is more that these days every part
of history gets mixed up with current politics. Personally for me it is not so
difficult, but not everybody seem to read a lot before they have an opinion.
Anyway welcome to Europe, welcome to France.
Now for our program, things seem to
get together too, and I can tell you it is a big program (the distance from
Rotterdam to Nice is still 1300km (900 miles) and on the morning of the 17th we
are expected to attend a ceremony for the veterans of the 3rd div. in Besancon
650 km north of Nice. Friday or Saturday we start moving south with landrover,
trailer and jeep and then I see how far I get.
I am
happy to hear things got worked out for you, lets stay in touch.
My mobile
phone is (if you call from france) 0031653196570. Best wishes to your
daughters
greetings from sunny
rotterdam”

Please add this to the Thursday evening event schedule for the Savannah

8:00 p.m. - For the "Rowdy Crowd" - An
evening at Kevin Barry's Irish Pub on
River
Street
For the "Less Rowdy Crowd" - "Juke Box Journey" an evening of a
live
stage production of music and dance from the 40's, 50's, 60's and 70's.
Hal and I wanted to give you a couple of choices for entertainment on

to Juke Box Journey and then hit River Street and Kevin Barry's.
A
note for those that will have children and/or grandchildren with them........the

Dear Ben:
Please tell Mr. Polk we are so glad he came through
the storm safely. Remembering what it was like after Hurricane Andrew
he is very much in our prayers (the clean up, lack of power, water, housing,
plus downed lines and trees and heat are depressing and last a long time). We
are also praying that Hurricane Frances doesn't compound the devastation from
Charley. As I write, it is starting to come ashore in the Palm Beach and
north area. It is a big one and moving very slowly so it will cause a lot
of flooding. As my husband reminds us, Mother Nature is going to get you
be it earthquakes, tornados or hurricanes.

Fantastic pictures. Sure glad the house wasn't damaged.
The poor turkeys and chickens look pitiful as does the grapefruit
tree. Glad to know the Polks made it through........Dot and Andy

Good morning Mr. Barrett.
I just wanted to let you know
that Tammy and I leave a week from Today (Friday the 10th) for China to FINALLY
get Lynzie, Finalize the adoption and bring her home to the United States.
We are so excited that we can hardly contain ourselves but we still have a
LOOONG trip ahead of us, as well as a lot of paperwork, etc.. (although
everything is finalized and she is ours, regardless) We leave
Birmingham Friday and we fly from B'ham to Atlanta, from Atlanta to Dallas, from
Dallas to LAX, from LAX to Guangzhou (China), and from Guangzhou to
Nanchang. Then we will travel to her village in the Jiangxi (sp?)
province-all back to back. Then, we will spend the night in her Province
and finally meet and get her the following day from her Foster mother. (as you
can tell, being under foster care is much better than the orphanage -although
she's registered @ the orphanage- since, as you will see in the pic., she hasn't
missed any meals. :-)) Then we will fly with Lynzie back to Guangzhou
where we finalize everything with the Chinese Conselant which will take about
two weeks. Then, we return home with our new baby girl on the 25th.
Since she has been under (VERY GOOD) foster care, there will be some separation
anxiety but maybe she will warm up to us pretty quick. Anyway, enough
about that, meet
Lynzie Li Liddell. (Li is her actual Chinese Middle name)
Your Friend,
Chris
