Hello,
Sorry
to have to send out the sad news about Dr. Charles Pugh. Will keep you
informed.
Glad to get two new online members today. Joe Miller 596 AB
Eng. and John
Pastalenic "H" CO. We have about eighty online members now,
but there has to
be many more out there.
We have recently added to our
email roster sons, grandsons, relatives and
other friends of the 517. Some
of the material in "Mail Call" may be boring
to them and clogging their email
box and if so we can remove their names at
their request. However, we our
very happy to have them aboard.
We include most mail that receive in "Mail
Call" unless requested not to do
so. We do not include jokes, political or
religious material. I don't want to
be the censor.

Just got mail from Al Goodman about Dr. Charles Pugh. Will send
this out
immediately.

Will
notify Clark Archer tomorrow AM (March 21) and bring him up todate.
This is a great loss for the 517th PRCT Association as
Charley was a
pillar of strength and a charter member of the 517PRCT. He
will be missed and
well remembered. I find it hard to believe
even as I
write this message.
Regards, Tom

Sir,
I believe I have already emailed you, but
several people associated with the
517th have given me your name for finding
information on the medical aspects
of Operation Dragoon. Let me know
if you are already tracking this. Thank
you.

I think another reason
for low attendance is Bismarck. Trying to get there
from here has
been a big headache. We have 3 regional airports in our area,
not
really big ones, and none of the airlines fly into ND except Northwest.
We can change airlines twice to get there but changing airlines runs into
lots of money. I think future reunions should be held centrally.
That
way, nobody has to travel much further than the others.
Maybe the reunions
should be held yearly from now on. We go to the
reunions to see old friends
and don't usually go off on all the side trips
so it doesn't matter if there
are lots of attractions or not. Anyway,
I think these things are something
that should be discussed at the business
meeting at the reunion. I'm sure
other people have some ideas too.
We are planning to attend but, due to airfare on Northwest, am waiting
for it
to come down some. I keep checking every few days and it has
come down from
$1100 each person. I will have to make reservations
soon I know. Andrew
can get the senior fares which you mention before
but I have to pay regular
fare and $1100 is a bit steep. So will keep
checking fares and when gets
low enough will grab one...Will keep you
posted.

Hello Ben,
It
was nice of you to call. John was happy to be able to speak with
you this
afternoon.
He's always eager to contact or meet members of the 517th
and in the
past few years he has tracked down a few of the men he fought
with
so many years ago.
We have lived in the Northeast corner of
Allegany County for the past
15 years, having moved here from Rochester, NY.
Our address is
1014 North Hill Road, Arkport, New York
14807.
Don't know whether you wanted that information.
We'll be looking
forward hearing from you -- hoping that you receive this
and are able to
email us successfully.
Best wishes,
John and Dottie Pastalenic

Bob,
Sending color copies of v-mail & picture to u by mail
today. Very old
picture with color added in 1946 has some fold lines...don't
know if they
will scan well or not. May be able to locate better condition
original black
and white photo from relatives. My brother and cousins are
looking for
better quality pictures they may have.
Family asked me to
thank you for all of your efforts re: 517th web site and
mailcall. I've sent
some of the stories and mailcall info to them. Its
created some interest in
them building family history about my dad and his
four brothers who all
served in combat during WWII.
Confirmed my dad was awarded the bronze star
with oak leaf cluster. 1st
bronze was for action in southern France - 2nd
bronze award [oak leaf
cluster] in the Ardennes. Please place dad's name on
bronze star with
cluster list.
My aunt thinks she has some old photos of
my dad and some 517th buddies
taken in France. If she finds them I'll try to
get copies. Also talking with
some veterans who were friends of my dad in
our old home town Fresno, CA
they were very interested about web site.
Please send me an e-mail
confirming you receive photo copies.
Thanks!
Robert Del Carlo

no
flowers or wreath I aked her what we could do later to pay tribute to
Charley since he has been so important to all of the airborne . /They would
love for us to do something at the Special Forces and Airborne Museum . We
can disciss this at Palm Springs and Bismarck I hope this meets with
your
approvals Al Goodman_
