Dear friends and family, As some of you know, Garnet has been in and out
of the ER several times over the past two months. She has endured  a
number of various "procedures", the latest of which is an EGD: has to do
with the esophagus (sp). Brought her home yesterday and seem to be
improving. Garnet suffers from diabetes, type 2, as well as congestive
heart failure. However , she is not bedridden and is in good spirits.
She is not infirm , though she does need her cane most of the time. As a
consequence of her condition, we have to watch her weight, bp, glucose, etc
very carefully. I know many of you have similar problems or worse. Such
are the "Golden Years". Love, Bob

Was George Hartman from Indianapolis Ind.??? This fellow I knew was a

My wife and I were in Paris France a couple of years ago, and we had
taken a taxi cab some-where and I mentioned to the driver that I had
Parachuted into Southern France on the Invasion of So France??  The
driver became so excited that here he was hauling a Veteran that had
helped liberate his country.  He nearly wrecked his cab trying to turn in
his seat to shake hands with me?? Then after I returned home I mentioned
to a German lady working at our local cleaners, that we had just returned
from France, and she startled me, by saying ,"You know the French people
don't like the Americans"  I wondered what she thought they thought of
the Germans??? Tom McAvoy

Hello Ben,

Can you send out?

My nephew who is 12 years old just finished reading a book about WWII
for a school report.  Since I am such a WWII buff, I asked him If I
could take a look at it..

The story is of two soldiers, one American, one German in the Ardennes
1944-45 up to the Siegfried Line & beyond.  The American GI, as it is
mentioned, is in the 17th Airborne Division.  Wasn't the 517th in the
17th?

Book is called Soldier Boys, by Dean Hughes.  I have not read it, but
perhaps it is of interest for you to recommend to your families kids.

Regards,

John Bramswig
son in law of Edmund Marconi, Co A, 517 PIR, (deceased & deeply missed,
from Brooklyn)

PS - as always, does anyone out there remember my father in law?  Any
story, good, bad or the other is wanted!!!!!!!!

Hi Ben ---

Thanks much for that web page (snopes.com/military/unknown) ---- I printed out the Honor Guard page and later on this afternoon, will read it.   I know I will learn the truth about those men who attend the Unknown Soldier.    I visited the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier years ago.   I had no idea what the Honor Guards went thru to become a Guard.   If memory serves me, I think my aunt and I stood there watching for  well over an hour.   It was an honor for me to visit the Tomb and to see the changing of the Guard

Again, thanks for the web page.   See you in Savannah!

God Bless America
