Ben, There were some fine eulogies to Wat Rommel in subject mail
call.
Dick Seitz' the most moving for me. I want to add my condolences
and
prayers for Marie. I doubt that she remembers, but at our Niagara
reunion
I left a suitcase in our room. I discovered this at the airport as
we
prepared to leave . By coincidence, Walter and Marie were sitting in
a
both visiting farewell to Gene and Margaret and some how
(
I've forgotten) Walter overheard my predicament and immediately
said
that he and Marie were returning to Niagara Falls and would be glad
to
retrieve the bag and ship it to me ! Having previously determined ,
by
telephone to our hotel, that the bag was safe, I /we were
immediately
relieved of our distress . Walt and Marie did retrieve and ship
the bag
to us in Idaho, where we were spending our summer. What a splendid man
.
Marie , our prayers are with you and yours. God Bless . InA/BBL

Ben,
Would someone with better memory
than I please advise the general date when the 517th was relieved from our
position on the lines in Southern France (October or
November).
I finally have gathered additional
pictures of the recent visit to Southern France-much video by the way (will
forward). Might be of interest at our 2005
gathering.
Thanks Gene Frice, F Co

Hi, Ben -
Hope you and Miss Fran are adjusting well to the
new home and surroundings. I can't imagine how hard it must be to start
over in a new home after so many years. I know that your family is making
it as easy as possible.
Dad (Allan Johnson 596) will be having a cardiac
catheterization and probably a stent put in, sometime late next week. He
saw the cardiologist yesterday (Friday), and that's what was proposed.
He's in good shape generally, and I know a lot of you troopers have been down
this road and then some. I'll keep Mail Call posted as I know
anything. He types so slowly that he hardly ever writes you, even though
he loves Mail Call.
I told him that if I'd known he was a cardiac
patient, I would have cut him a bit more slack in France a few weeks ago!
But he told me that he wasn't a cardiac patient then.
Still
looking forward to Kissimmee in January. Hope all is well with all of you

How I found the 517th page: From a search engine
Comments: I am searching for any info that anyone may have regarding
my grandfather, John A. Skipper. He was a Pennsylvania native. My family did not
really have any info., but I was able to find a copy of his discharge through
our local veterans affairs. His discharge states that he was discharged from Co
H, 517th Para Inf Regt, 13th A B Div. Any bit of info. that could shed light on
the past would be invaluable and greatly appreciated.
