Ben,  Tonight while going through some old papers and pictures with a cousin
I discovered a v-mail that apparently my mother had saved.  Out of curiosity
I read it and was very much surprised at the contents.  I wrote this in March
of 1945.  I think it is typical of the thoughts and attitudes of the time. In
the ensuing years I have often wondered if we would ever, as a nation, reach
that state of mind again.  I often wonder if the youth of today even care
about freedom of choice, freedom of speech, freedom from persecution, and the
freedom to follow their own goals.  Perhaps they won't miss these things
until they are taken away.

Ed send me a downloadof his v-mail letter. It was a personel letter to his
parents in 1945 and I don't want to print it unless he request that I do so.I
think you can get the jist of what he is referring to.

I am in favor of holding the reunions in Kissimmee and having a permanent
committee.

I will volunteer to serve on that committee on condition that I get a
guarantee of a fifteen year tenure.

Great mail call.  As usual, I really enjoyed reading it  I am very glad to
know that Roy Herron is doing so well.  I think I would like to have his
doctor.  I agree, there comes a time when we should all be allowed to eat
anything we want.  LOL.  I hope he continues to improve and keep his sense of
humor.  Sometimes,  laughter is as good as medicine and it sure helps the
blood pressure....

Hi Ben,
Guess you finished your travels-got your note # 78-boy, the numbers are
getting up there-just like the membership (age). The family type messages are
heart warming. If you are able to continue such discussions a great service
is accomplished for all.
Currently at Palm Springs with the other die hards. Have a good turn out
and I hear the expected manifest will be around 90 +. Not bad. Merele turned
up this afternoon-did not have the opportunity to talk to him much, but he
said he is feeling fine and he certainly looks good.
Have my lap top with me to continue with my business stuff. So, if you
have messages or other business with any of the group-give me a call.
Regards and thanks again for all the hard work. Gene Frice F CO.

Yep,
They are all here. i will get on their case. I may see if I can set the
laptop up at the meeting and show the unwashed the "beautiful" web page. We
don't have any new comers to the 517 here, but I am sure that there are some
here who have comps (or their wives do). Will stay in touch.

To print any page from the Christmas booklet:

Printing instructions: It depends on your Internet Explorer or other viewing
program, but in most cases once you get to the page that you want to print,
you should click once on the image itself.(Nothing will happen, but the
viewer will now know that you are on that frame of the page.) Then you go to
the "File" menu, and select "Print". On the lower section, it will ask you
how you want to print the selected frames. Make sure you choose the "Only the
selected frame" option.  This will print out one page at a time, and should
fit well onto normal 8 1/2 x 11 paper.

For future reference, these instructions are included on the "Booklet Info"
page, which is part of the index.

It is strange but I see myself being portrayed in a lot of these situations.
HA
Ladies! Would you say that these sayings could involve your dearly beloved.

One mood - ALL the time.
Phone conversations are over in 30 seconds flat.
Wedding plans take care of themselves.
Chocolate is just another snack
You don't give a rat's derriere if someone notices
your new haircut.
You never have to drive to another gas station because
this one's just too
icky.
Same work ... more pay.
Wrinkles add character.
Wedding Dress $5000; Tux rental $100
A five-day vacation requires only one suitcase.
You can leave the motel bed unmade.
Your underwear is $8.95 for a three-pack.
If you are 34 and single, nobody notices.
Three pairs of shoes are more than enough.
You don't have to clean your apartment if the meter
reader is coming.
You don't mooch off other's desserts.
You can drop by to see a friend without having to
bring a little gift.
If another guy shows up at the party in the same
outfit, you just might
become lifelong friend
You are unable to see wrinkles in your clothes.
The same hairstyle lasts for years, maybe decades.
You don't have to shave below your neck
One wallet and one pair of shoes, one color, all
seasons.
You can "do" your nails with a pocketknife.
Christmas shopping can be accomplished for 25
relatives, on December 24th, in
45 minutes.

Subj: Question & Thanks!!!

Greetings Ben,  My toll free number is temporarily not working because I
changed carriers to benefit a friend who sells long distance service,
but it should be back in service by the end of the week or the first of
next week.  Please remember it, and call me when you have the time.  Is
it true that those who were awarded the COMBAT INFANTRY BADGE are
entitled to the BRONZE STAR MEDAL?  If so, please let me know, and tell
me how to get it.  My four children would be very happy.  Forgive me for
adding to your already heavy work load for us Old Codgers.  You and the
dear ladies who filled in for you are great and much appreciated.  Many
thanks, jdbutler.
P.S. If you have expense that I can help you cover, please let me know.
Also, since, as I told you in our telecon that I have daughter and
son-in-law in the Boston area, let me know if I can ask them to call
you.   jdb

I've responed to JD's question about medals. I also told him that his
appreciation as well as that of other members is ample income for any small
expense that I incur.
