Subject: MAIL CALL NO. 792 517TH PRCT--NOVEMBER 11, 2004
Hello,

Previous Mail Call should have been numbered 791 and I forgot to send it via blind copy so you received about three hundred names  in the heading. Maybe someone  up there is trying to tell me something.

You have to notify me if you wish to be removed from my email roster or if you wish to be added to it.

Thank you for your response. Our entire family is very pleased with Dad being listed on the 517th  website. It is nice to know who is responsible for this effort, and we thank you.  When we sold the box of artifacts to the military store, they asked who they belonged to and requested a brief history, I suppose they then listed all the information on eBay.  Yes, Joel is my brother, and I have been on the phone to my other siblings, (6 of us) and relatives to tell them to check out your site.  It was particularly heartwarming  to stumble across dad's page as his birthday has just passed, and the anniversary of his death is approaching.

Again, with heartfelt thanks
Barb Scott, and the rest of the Frank Streed family

Subject: La Roquette Battle 517th

Hello

I already wrote to you before concerning the Marvin
Moles helmet story. I would like to know as many
details possible about the battle that occurred at la
Roquette. I recently spoke to a few of the locals,
and would like to make brief historical about what
occurred there. I saw that Gene Brissey proposed to
write even more details than what his autobiography
contains, but did not do so. I wrote him an Email
recently, but maybe the address was wrong, because I
didn't hear back from him.
I would like to encourage Gene, or any of the other
troopers who were in la Roquette to write about any
details they remember of the battle, even
insignificant things. I would be very pleased to find
out more about what happened. If anyone has any
pictures taken in la Roquette, that would be great. If
any one wants to write to me, they can Email me at jean-loup@gassend.com,
but I suspect the best would be for their accounts to be posted one the
site, so that everybody is free to read them.

Thanks for your help

Jean-Loup

My humble thank you, to you and all veterans for what you have done for us.  I have lived the dream that you and my father wished for your children. I went to college instead of to war.

Even though I was drafted in January 1972, the Viet Nam war ended during my senior year of High School and I got the strangest letter you could imagine.  It said “The US Government has decided to end the war and we do not need you to report.”  It actually said “Don’t call us; we’ll call you if we need you.”   I packed my bags for school instead of the battlefield.

Dad told all of us boys that he would go to war again if he could take our place and keep us from going through what he went through in WWII.

(My eldest brother Larry is a Marine veteran and my brother Frank served in the National Guard.)   I get the feeling all of you felt the same and would have offered the same sacrifice to your children.

I honor you and I say a little prayer for you quite often…thank you for saving the world for us.   We’ll see if we can live up to your legacy and hold it together.

Our wonderful young men and women in the military today are amazing also.

Respectfully,

Ted L. Crawford

Bob,

My sister just forwarded me her correspondence about photo's of our
dad (Frank) that recently turned up on your website.  They look great!  That
reminded me about something I've been meaning to write to you about.  My mom
finally decided to move out of our house this past summer, so we had the
opportunity to go though lots of old pictures.  I have a small album of
about 20-25 pictures from dad's time in the 517th.  I'm wondering if this is
something someone would be interested in.  I'd be happy to mail it wherever.

Thanks again for the great site.

Hi Joel,

Sure.  We'd love to have any of your dad's 517th pictures for the web site.
I can take the files electronically, if you have the means, or if you want
to just send them to me, I can scan them in and return them to you.  If you
have any info on the locations, dates, or people in the pics, let me know
that as well.

Thanks.

Ben, I have a new computer. My new e-mail address is:bobx517_1@juno.com.
They wouldn't let me import my other address. I would like everyone to
send me a message. It doesn't have to say anything, although it would be
nice if it did. When they send the message, I will be able to save their
address to my Address Book and save me a lot of work. Bad things happen
when you are a computer Dummy like me. Hope you have received the latest
Thunderbolt headlining the Legion of Honor. The next one will be out
before Christmas. Bob

Ben, Happy Veterans Day to you and all the other outstanding 517 Troopers who served this great country of ours (and would do it again, if asked to do so).

Look  forward to seeing you, and others, at the gathering in Kissimmee in January.

Have a happy and safe Christmas Holiday.
