Subject: Mail Call NO. 81
Hello,
I've been trying to send out an updated Email list. Have had trouble trying
to get it organized. The computer does what Bob wants it to do but not always
what I want it to do. I will include Bob's version in this "Mail
Call"  However, older people might like the larger print on mail I sent earlier.
Just caught one error on roster previously sent out. I have one of JD
Butler's many old address's. His latest address is jdbutler@myexcel.com.
Please send me any other errors that the computer made. However, will accept
only the first three.
Better send this out before I make more mistakes and also to keep it from
being too long.

Subj: Transportation for reunion.

It seems that the transportation from the airport to the reunion site ,or
hotel, is the big stickler as far as choosing a reunion site.  A suggestion:
Lets add enough to the registration fee to cover the cost of renting a 10
passenger, or more, van for the duration of the reunion.  Someone will always
be available to drive it.  In Kissimmee the airport isn't that far away. We
would have our own shuttle and control our own transportation.  The only
requirement would be that all requests for the use of it would have to be
controlled by one person in order to avoid conflicts.

With a little shopping around we could probably come up with a pretty good
deal.

That is my two cents worth.  Would like to hear some other ideas.  Please,
don't anyone suggest using Bill Webb's tractor.  It already spends most of
it's time in the ditch with him asleep at the wheel.  Just a little dig at
Bill.  I'm sure he will get even.

Ben:
Thanks for the return message. I agree. Merle can help by consistently
using the Thunderbolt to get the message out that we need to get the e-mail
addresses of all Association members so we can build up our communication
capability.
I will continue to work on Clark to get a computer. It is not easy. It may
end up by asking Wild Bill and Don Fraser to give him a direct order to get
one. I am on the phone enough with him to warrant getting a WW II EE-8 hand
cranked telephone and direct line to Clark.
   All for now.
Regards, Tom

It IS true that those who have Combat Inf Badge WW2 are eligible for Bronze
Star.  They have to have a copy of 214 & the order number that issued the
badge--then apply to the records division in St Louis.  I knew this from
being in the service a few years ago & they passed info out to our eligible
guys.

Below is the 517 roster, with the names as you sent to me.  You can
copy/Paste that into an email.

I only used spaces between the columns to keep things lined up, and also used
"Courier New" font.  Using that font, all the letters are exactly the same
width.  An "i" is just as wide as an "m".  That's how I get the columns to
line up exactly.  All other fonts use less space for some characters,
especially spaces, so Courier New is the only one that lines up correctly.

For example:

Using Arial:
Christie, Bob       Chrcook@Juno.com
Caramehas, Mike     Greenthumbs@Dellnet.com
Coffman, Fritz      Cofgirl@aol.com
Christian, Bill     BIGZEBRA@MSN.COM
CHESTNUT, BRUCE     BLCHESTNUT@AOL.COM

Coffman, Fritz      Cofgirl@aol.com

Hi Patrick.
This story was in this morning's Boston Globe. Will try to see you on CNN
today. Members have been alerted to watch..  Been checking Amazon.com for
book
sales. It is still up there today at number 124. Number two in Texas and
number five in California.
Congratulations,
Ben

THIS STORY HAS BEEN FORMATTED FOR EASY PRINTING An honor between comrades

After decades, WWII veteran to receive medal for action on D-Day from
commander
By Megan Tench, Globe Staff, 3/31/2001 UDLOW - Francis Lamoureux
survived the front lines of World War II without a scratch, but he is still
assaulted by grisly wartime memories.  ''There are images I'll never
forget,''
shudders the 81-year-old, his eyes welling beneath his brown-rimmed glasses
as he sits in his home: murderous images, he says, such as ''the familiar
screaming sound of a mortar shell.''   Fifty-five years ago the
''pathfinders''
of the 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment received Bronze Stars for ''superb
courage, cool-headed efficiency and daring of the highest order.'' Hours
before the Normandy invasion, 18 pathfinders parachuted behind enemy lines
to
secure a ''drop zone.'' Lamoureux was among the few who survived, but he
missed the awards ceremony. For years he refused to take the medal unless
Colonel Louis Mendez, his fierce battalion commander and brother in the
darkness of battle, presented it to him. ''I won't take the medal,'' he
insists. ''I wouldn't take it from Reagan, Clinton, or Bush. I'll only take
it from Colonel Mendez.'' Today, Lamoureux will finally get his wish - by
virtue of a series of coincidences as random as bombs falling from the
sky. Lamoureux's account of battle was published in a book released this
month
by The Free Press titled, ''Beyond Valor: World War II's Ranger and
Airborne
Veterans Reveal the Heart of Combat'' by Patrick
