Subject: MAIL CALL NO. 818 517TH PRCT -- DECEMBER 24, 2004

Hello,

Ben is in Lake Tahoe, so I'm filling in again with MailCall.  If you have any news, continue to send it to Ben at Ben517@aol.com, and he will forward items to me.

First, some sad news:

Date:    12/22/2004 5:08:03 PM Eastern Standard Time

Dear Ben:

We have lost a valiant trooper and a good friend. Jack Castiglione of the 3rd Bn. S-2 section and I Company passed away today at the Wilmington VA Hospital after several operations in his fight with cancer of the esophagus. His son, who was associated with Jack in the building business, called with this sad news a few moments ago. Jack's son carried on as a builder after Jack retired. Like so many of us, Jack didn't really retire. A month or so ago Jack had difficulty in swallowing. Betty, his wife for half a century, encouraged him to see his doctor. Jack was doing a project for a friend that he just had to finish. We can't predict whether checking in at the VA earlier would have made a difference. We do know that Jack, like the trooper we knew, had the satisfaction of finishing that job before he signed out.

We send Betty, Jack's two daughters and his son our prayers and encouragement to carry on in honor of a man who will be remembered for the life he lived and the service he rendered.

Ben,

I will be going off line as my eye sight does not like for me to read my e-mail.
Tell all a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

How I found the 517th page: From a search engine
Comments: My husband's father, James Simon, Company C, died when my husband was a baby. We have his citation for the bronze star during the Battle of the Bulge and some of his letters home, but my husband has always wanted to know more about his father. We would love to hear from anyone who remembers him.

Hello Ben, Howard.

Just want to wish all the 517th and families a Merry Christmas. Thanks to all of you for getting me information this year about my father, other fathers and their accomplishments, I almost feel like a junior buzzard.

Sincerely,
Robby, Betty (my Mom) and The Scruggs Family

God Bless You All

Dear Ben,

Can anyone tell me who is connected with the Internet address [
r4b4@comcast.net ]  I received an email with the subject, Mail Call 517th Prct, and I'm not sure if I should open it or not.  A person can't be too careful nowadays.

Thank you!!!

I'm thinking and praying for each one of you 517th comrades at this time of year.  Monday my heart will be heavy as I recall the many memories of my uncle Floyd A. Stott.  Memories that have been dictated to me from the MEN who knew him best, his 517th buddies.  Thank God for this web site.  And thank you Ben and all who help you for keeping a Plan-4-Peace available on the Internet.

Kent Immerfall

[Note:  r4b4@comcast.net is my address.  Sorry for the confusion, but that's the only email I can use for this.  Ben will be back in charge soon. -- Bob Barrett]

Hello Ben,

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year - 2005.

For some reason Bob's Mail Calls are coming in on our "Junk Mail" and I don't know why.  Yours always came in on the regular e-mail.

This is Martha & Oscar Berg in Everett, Washington.

[Note:  Another problem with my email address.  I'll try not to take it personally.  Oscar probably has his email set to include anything from comcast as junk, or maybe anything sent to too many people.  Have patience.  I'll be demoted soon enough. -- Bob Barrett]
