I was reading the mail call and
noticed Keith Darnall’s email about his Dad. He was a radio
man for the 460th and was wounded in the Huertgen forest. I am not sure of the
proximity of the 460th and the 517th Company A during the
fight in the Huertgen forest but my father received his Bronze Star for
assisting a wounded radio man during one of the fights there. I know now that it
was not the company A radio man. My father Robert L. Crawford of Company
A crawled to a wounded radio man under heavy small arms fire and relieved him of
his radio so they could both crawl back to safety. (
That is the short version.)
Keith, you might check with your Dad and find out if
this story is related. (I am sure there were many stories that are
similar.)
See the newspaper
article that Ben posted on the website regarding Robert L.
Crawford.

Thanks for sending the message from Dan. I
have sent an e-mail to him, hopefully I will hear back soon. The
daughter has kept in touch with me, but I had not heard from her in a
long time, so I was anxious to hear what his message said. Thank
you so much for helping us all keep in touch.
I' m sorry I can't be in
Florida, for the reunion. but I will definitely be at the August Reunion.
Sorry I will have to miss being with all the 2nd. Batt. group. Tell all hello
for me, and I'll look forward to being with everybody in August.
Thanks again for your help.
