Allan Johnson

Ben,
Add my enthusiastic agreement to Gene Frice's suggestion that we invite and
assist our Belgian and French friends to our reunion. Those of us who
visited France last summer experienced an outpouring of affection and love
that was wonderful to see.
The museum at Le Muy, though small, is a must see site. It features our
combat team. When I walked in the door I was face to face with a pack
howitzer just like the ones you 460 guys used to double-time with around
Camp MacKall.
This collection of WWII militaria has helped keep alive our contribution to
the liberation.
Fond regards,
Allan Johnson 596

Ben: Two items: 1. Yes, we have helped our European friends in the past
with some financial support, buy we did not use Combat Team funds. As I
recall, and I was President at the time, we helped particularly at the
Kansas City Reunion in 1995. 2.  I never had the opportunity to meet Gail
Walsh and I add my condolences to those already stated . Colonel Walsh
was a real warrior. Our relationship was rather brief, but he was very
supportive of my command and told me so . In fact after his retirement he
and I corresponded a few times and talked on the phone occasionally.
Also, I reunited with him at our San Mateo reunion in 1983.

How I found the 517th page: Heard from a member of the 517th
Comments: My Cousin was a member of 'H' Company 517, K.I.A. Jan, 5, 1945 Bergeval, Belgium. I enjoy the individual stores of how the individual soldier dealt with the rigors of war. Keep the stories coming.
