Subject: MAIL CALL NO.857 517TH PRCT-FEBRUARY 26, 2005
Hello
I would appreciate it if when you send a long message or mail with many photos or a large photo that when possible, you would send my the hyperlink instead of the long message, if you know it. This would send much space in Mail Calls. This is especially important when you send forwarded mail that has been sent to many.  As always, you have to be careful of getting a virus if you don't know all who have received this mail before you.

 Ben:

I believe some of our group have the wrong impression as to why the funding to bring over French and Belgian friends to the reunion is being considered.  It is not a financial assistance gesture but rather a Thank You and an Appreciation gesture for all the things they have done over the years.  The memorials placed at grave sites, the welcoming committees that meet returning veterans, the museums they develop, their interest in making certain the younger generation doesn't forget why they are free today are the reasons we want to show our appreciation.

If we were to assist in bringing 517th men to the reunion how would the selection be made?. What would the criteria be for being eligible for consideration.  Then those that felt they were eligible but not selected would be resentful.

A separate fund could be set up and that along with some complimentary rooms that are usually provided by the hotel for groups such as ours would take care of the major expense.

It should be established who can and will come.  I know Arnold and Irma told me once that Marie can't travel any longer.  I have been trying to get Aime Leocard to visit us but he says he can't travel anymore.  There may be some conflicts in August that prevent others from coming. Time is of the essence.

Hello Ben,
I have been reading the ideas about sending for our European friends help in coming to Savannah and Leo has to agree with Bob Dalrymple, Jessie Darden, Bill Boyle and all others who do not think our 517th funds should be used. The last time a separate fund was set up to bring them here and Leo and I donated $100 toward it and would be willing again.
Trying to bring members to reunions with the funds also would be a big problem for who is to say why someone can't afford to attend. Most of us who do try to attend in some way find the money. Everyone is not well to do but if they really want to come try to find their own way. It would make such a problem for the organization to determine who would qualify.
It would be very nice to have our friends from Europe to come as they always entertained us royally when we were there but also they did not pay our way to go there.
Leo is for the separate fund. We are going to try to come but it will all depend on how well he will be able to move. I may have to see what I can do about getting a wheel chair for us while we are there. We know the airlines are very helpful. Will not make our reservations until nearer to time as some days he is find and others can hardly stand.
Best wishes to all,             Joyce Turco for Leo

Hey Ben,

Can anyone tell me why my father has a bunch of Flying Dragon insignias?  I know that you guys were attached to a bunch of different outfits but I never saw where the flying Dragons fit in.
