Hello,
Register for the Bismarck reunion NOW. It will be of great help for Merle and
others working to make the reunion a success. Engineers note the message from
Al Goodman in his mail.

Gene Frice has found two new members for us. They are listed in his mail
I would like to hear from more members and friends.

I just got mail from Merle McMorrow concerning our French friends. Please
send your thoughts on this matter to Merle immediately. Mail below from
Merle, Gene Frice and our French friends, Michel,  Lizy, Eric and Lidy will
explain the matter. Anyone who has ever made a trip back to Europe will tell
you that the 517th has no better friends than our French and Belgian friends.
There isn't much that they will not do for us when we go over there.
Ben

Ben,
I received 4 addresses from Palm Springs, however two are missing. They
are with the adm stuff that likely was gathered up after our meeting. You may
already have these:
The two I have are the following:
        Bill Brannnan <brannan@mcn.org>  Co A
        Don Vaughn  <Vaughndonald@msn.com>  Co A
Bob Dalrymple said he wants to get on but expects that it will be
awhile
Hope the additional two turn up
In another matter, Gary Davis wrote asking about the possibility of us
financially supporting our French kids (curators of the museum in South
France, Michel and
Eric <jimi-lizy@infonie.fr>} in travel to Bismark. They have made two trips I
believe,
Palm Springs and with wives to Columbus. I do not know how the travel was
financed, but I assume they received some help from the 517. They have done a
great job with their museum in Le Muy on behalf of the 517th and the others
involved. They also were our hosts in the 517th last visit to So France.  I
am sure a number of us would be glad to assist-the curve is a bit late to be
thinking of this.  If any steps have been taken it probably got lost in the
woodwork. Merle may have some info on it if it existed.  Just a thought.
    Gene Frice,

Ben,
Here is the form I posted at Palm Springs following a showing of a copy
of  the 517 and your web page. We should post such as this at Bismark and
possibly get a few more members.  Many had heard of the web page and mail
call-but, had not seen it in actions. It is (due to your hard work) actually
a most impressive and valuable document-pretty too.

Hi Bob   .I think Bob Dalrymple is shopping for a computer now . At Palm
Springs  he was very interested  but like so many of our generation is
reluctant to try something new. He does have family spread around and when he
heard how easy it was for me to keep in touch with a son in Japan , a
daughter in Colombia , and another daughter in Seattle area  he said he ws
going to get with it. I am just hoping the 596 will have enough people in
Bismarck to justify the arrangements that Charley Pugh made for our
hospitality room. Lyle Madison is coming by Monday on his west coast visit
and we will determine whether to keep the room or not . Lyle is the Chief
Engineering Officer for this reunion. If you will put out a message for
people to hurry up and get their registration in we can make an intelligent
decision. All are welcome to visit  when the Engrs have a room.
Thanks again for all you do.  Al

What a wonderful service you have created for the 517th PRCT.  Any
organization is doomed that does not have a sense of history.  Yours is a
great gift to our children and all who follow.

Churchill said that if one wanted to see the most correct version one should
write it himself.  My intent is to lead to the most accurate source

If you don't have the right title ask for the Paratroopers Odyssey.  Like
Churchill, those authors were of the same mind.  Our love and gratefulness
to Charles La Chaussee, Charles Pugh, Bill Lewis, and Clark Archer for this
historical work.  Please fellows don't take offense.  That's the way I
experienced it.  Of course, an engineer would have the most objective
position.  We 596th - Dalrymple boys have no doubt.  Last thing I heard was
that the 460th and 517th were tied for first place.  Surly a pity since we
already had the trophy.  That's what the C.O. told us and the story gets
bigger every year.

Suggest you run a true and false test on the Odyssey's content.  Reference
page 3 for those who did much leg work and research necessary to publishing.
Be sure to read Col. Graves letter.  What a leader of men, credit him for
the number of general officers that came from our ranks.  He knew how to
pick men to lead and fight.  He believed we had a job to do and did not
cotton to giving recognition to every twist and turn.  It is noteworthy to
see the results of this policy.  Credit him and his leaders for a record
that fills us with both pride and deep anguish for those who gave their all.

See page 217 for statistics and organization.  Engineers should see page 235
and all the rest.  Pop quiz Tuesday!

Charlie Pugh, please give St. Peter a good report.  God bless all.  Old
soldiers never die.

Love Joe and Edie

Bi...smarck or not to Bi...smarck

Dear president, dear friend of the 517th,

for the third time, we have the great privilege to be together to your
wonderful reunion, meeting and talking with our heroes...
This year, after weeks and weeks of research, it is very hard to have
tickets, France to Bismarks, except changing in Holland, and Minneapolis, and
for approx 800$ each.
It's very hard for us to ask that question, but we must know if the fee of
our reunions registration are in charge of the 517th asso, like in
Palmspring97, and Columbus99,?, usually, our correspondent and friend  Charles
Pugh 596, help us a lot, but we had last week the bad new of his death, and
day after day our dream to be with you became impossible...
This letter is very uncomfortable for us but please let's me know...
Your friends in South France,

IJ. Michel, Lizy,
Eric and Lidy

From Le Muy Airborne Museum
France.

Dear Ben:

I have not responded to their request as yet but I think what they are
seeking is financial help.  Depending on how many registered guests we have,
we get a free room for each 50 paid rooms.  We can skip the registration fee
and the cost to the events and probably absorb that cost from our total
obtained by the registration fee.

You might get a feeling from the Mail Call members how they feel about
contributing to a pot to offset some of the costs of our foreign guests.  I
know the three from Belgium are going to Arizona first to visit Brissey and
then riding here to Bismarck with him.  We would do the same thing with them.
that is not have any costs locally.  The contributions would be for
offsetting costs associated with room accommodations.

Let me know what the response is.

                                           Merle
