Plans for the 517th Reunion in Savannah are coming along very nicely.  If you have seen yesterday's Mail Call or have gone to the website for information, the Reunion Registration form is online.  The "pdf format" is the Adobe Reader and the "Word format" is Microsoft Word.  If you can't open either one of those formats, the Registration Form will be in the Thunderbolt.  You can also email me at HBeddow@cs.com and I will mail you a Registration Form.  We are looking forward to having a wonderful week and party time in August.  See you then!!

We all read your e-mails and forward them to Elbert who does not have a computer. Just recently thanks to you we were able to put him in contact with the family of Harold C. Daniels who is buried at Henri-Chapelle. He has been looking for them for 60 years. Surprisingly he has a sister that lives maybe 15 miles from his home. It was like a dream come true to talk to them for Harold was his best friend and died next to him. Thank you for your dedication to this web site, hope to see you in Palm Springs.  Ruben Duran

Hi !!
 
My name is Richard Rench, one of my best friends is Robert L. O'Neill who served with the 517th.
 
He was shot thru the neck and lung about 8 AM January 5, 1945.
 
He then was hit with mortar shrapnel as he laid on a cot waiting to be taken to a field hospital.
 
He will be 80 this coming November and is pretty good shape.
 
We meet for a drink a couple times a week.

What a small world, both you getting hit the same day.
 
How did you know he was in "E" Company ?
 
Did you know him ?
 
He is not sure where he was when he got hit.
 
He had been carrying a P-38 when hit, when he was evacuated someone made sure that it stayed with him even during month in a England Hospital. He still has it !!!
 
He has his, like new, jump suit which he plans to be buried in.He is still trim and can wear it, not to mention a pilot chute that he sent home to his mother during the war.
 
I have attached a photo of us just taken last week in his kitchen as we toast each other for living another week. He's fighting his age and other complications while I am fighting cancer. Together at one time 40 years ago we were two of the meanest, toughest guys in the county !!!
 
I met Bob in 1964 when I was an Ohio Trooper and he was a driver examiner.
 
While I didn't serve in the military I always loved military items.
