I am a collector of military items, and am the
young
man involved in the Marvin Moles helmet
story(

I would like to ask a
question to all 517 vets who
were in southern France.
For the southern
France jump, the 517 was equipped
with a helmet with a special hand made
chinstrap, and
not with the regular paratrooper helmet that had a
large
leather chin-cup.
Do any veterans remember why they were not equipped
with
the normal helmets, or do they recall when the
special helmets were made, or
by who? Does anybody
remember wearing them?
Thank you for any
help.

and the other of the 517th specially
modified helmet, with a hand made

I have been back from my summer Lodge on
Upper Saranac Lake in the Adirondack Mountains since the middle
of September. I did not restart my E Mail because I intended to go from
dial up to a broad band connection.
This would mean that I would have to change from a SBC Yahoo internet
provider to a Verizon DSL internet connection, which would have a new E
Mail Address.
However, I did read all the E Mails I missed this summer,
plus the ones you received this Fall and Winter by going to the 517th
Website Mail Archives.

whether you want to restart me on your
periodic E Mail mailing list, or have me continue to periodically check the
517th E Mail Archives. There is a
certain pleasure derived when I read the 517 E Mail letters when they are
not mixed in with all the other
E Mail letters I might receive, including junk, spam, or what else you may
call them.
