Hi Ben,

My dad wanted me to email you and let you know that he is so sorry he
missed the reunion in Palm Springs last week.  He had a slight case of
cellulitis and his doctor said that it was better if he just stayed home
and quiet for a few days.

Thanks to you all for everything,
Juliana Stonis
daughter of John A Stonis.

Last year and again this year, the best looking, most handsome and smartest members of the 517th showed up at the Palm Springs Party. Oh yes, and the Sexiest  and Bravest.

If you question it, just ask any one of them.

Ben, you are a comedian. I did not say Rita Gardner did not know her husband's name. In her note she didn't mention him but I am sure she must have had a husband in the 517th. Why would she be writing to us? I checked all the rosters I have and could find no information on her husband or unit. I thought perhaps there might be someone on Mail Call that would know who her husband was. Bob

Turnout was ten or so below last year, however I believe some made the choice to attend the National Reunion event this year.

I wish to thank all the ladies who provided the hospitality room with more snacks than we could handle and those who supplied us with bar beverages.

Many thanks to all who attended and especially to you Ben for keeping folks aware ot the reunion. Hope to see more of you next year, God willing.

Bill Christian

Dad,

Current bid price:  $270

Description

Up for auction is a RARE grouping from the 517th Parachute Regimental Combat team!  Included in group is original overseas cap (near mint, size tag present 7 3/8 penned in over 7 1/4) with early sky blue parachute patch.  You also get a original studio photo of the trooper taken in Nice' France with his name written on back (someone has mistakenly penned in "1940").  Also included are TWO copies of the famous 517th "Blue Book" with approx. 80+ original signatures of fellow troopers (most from H & I companies) along with hometowns and some even with full addresses!  One of the books has a loose page, but both are in extraordinary condition and are 100% original WW2!  Also included is a COPY (included for reference) of the 517th's Christmas, 1944 roster with this troopers name and most of the other signatures in it!  Now the best part!  Probably one of the more rare pieces of 517th paperwork available.  An original printed map in "cartoon" format showing the combat record of the 517th along with the color patches of all the units they were attached too!    There are no rips or tears, and color is very nice with no fading I can tell. Map measures 33" x 23 1/2"inches, Large!  It is bordered by photos of the 517th in training and personalities from the unit.  People, The 517th Regimental Association doesn't even have this map!  Now you can own it with an ID of the original trooper it was issued too!  The artwork looks to be by the same artist as the bluebooks.  Of course the troopers name will be supplied to the winning bidder.  This is truly a very nice grouping and would display well in even the most advanced Airborne collection!  Reserve is low, so bid HIGH! Please see pics, more available upon request!  Please ask all questions before end of auction and I will do my best to answer them.  Buyer to pay all shipping and insurance charges, to be figured at auction end!  I take Money Orders, Personal Checks and PAYPAL.  Please see my other auctions for more original Airborne regalia!  Thanks for looking and good luck!

Name: J. Donald Brubaker

How I found the 517th page: From a search engine
Comments: I have very little information regarding my father who was in the 517th. Charles E. Brubaker. His brother, my namesake, J. Donald Brubaker was also in Airborne but probably not the 517th. The 517 documentation shows a Charles "P." Brubaker who was awarded a silver star. It may be possible that my father's middle initial "E" was mis-typed since it would be quite the coincidence of two people with almost identical names in the 517th.

He passed in January 1990. Any information regarding his service would be appreciated.
