Dear Mr Barrett,
I'm duly received your email and the invitation for
your annual reunion in Georgia.
Thank you so much for this invitation. It will be a
big honor to participate at your reunion. Unfortunately, it is not possible for
me, during the period of July and August, I'm obligate to work and it's not
easy to have vocation during these months. Of course, some colleague that
work with me will be in vocation during this period, but the privilege are
for the older people in the society or the people that have children in age to
going in school etc...
I will be not with you but my thought will be with
all of you...
So' all is fine for me. Actually my book is close
and it is under press. I hope receive it in the two weeks
coming. It's a book in French again ! I have 240 pages
and 200 photos with a hundred of testimonies of
people. It's look like
that my first book "L'offensive des Ardennes" but this one is more detailed
with several testimonies of paratroopers of the 517th. Mike Spano, Howard
Hensleigh, Joseph Calder, Wm.Webb, Floyd Ziolkowski...
I have an exemplary for you, a present ! I
will give it to Irma and Arnold for
you !
Sincerely,
I stay in touch with all of you, my friends of the
517th !
Eddy

If all goes well, Andrew will be weaned off the ventilator
tomorrow and tomorrow night and then have the vent tube removed on
Thursday. This is according to his lung specialist this afternoon.
He is still very weak but physical therapy is working with him. He sleeps
a lot but then any movement or exertion really tires him out. He will have
to continue on dialysis until his kidneys recover some more if they ever
do. All his doctors are pleased with his progress but we still have a long
way to go.

Ben, I am looking for a picture from the Kissimmee
2002 reunion. We went
to the Arabian Knights show. I
have the picture that you & your wife are
in along
with the Boyles & the Christies & Jesse & myself
&
others. The picture I am wanting is of the other
group. If anyone
has either size of this picture I
would appreciate having a copy. If you can
e-mail it
to me that would be great or I would be more than
willing to pay
for a copy & the postage. Sure hope we
can locate this picture. Thanks,
LOU DARDEN

Can anyone help Lou? I do not have that photo.--Ben

I guess when they go bad sometimes you never are aware of it. My
family
Dr. told me I just didn't look good. So sent me for a blood test. It
came back some infection in the system. Since I had my last
check-up
with my heart surgeon, soon, family Dr. said I should tell him about
it. I
did and he puts me into the hospital to run down just where
this
infection was, turns out my Gall-bladder, was full of it, and
must be
removed. It took me 5 days to go through that and get back home.
In
the process they find I have a small blockage in the urinary tract,
and they would like to see me in 10-12 days, by the way how about
those
cysts, you were going to have removed that started all
this? Damn if
it ain't one thing its another. Tom (Art) McAvoy

Anything that you wish to send is worth posting. It may not be the same as
the stuff that we already have. This is what we have.
Letter from
Bob Hope --Ben
Harold L. Daniels
Gentlemen:
I was glad to find your column on the 517th. I have
read all of the letters from other soldiers; trying to get information on my
uncle Cpl Harold Calvin Daniels. I just found out that he was in the
517th. I don't know what unit or platoon.
I never met my
uncle for I was born in '46, but have heard a great deal about him. I do
know he was killed on Feb 8th, during the last battle of the 517th. What a
shame, and I was told he died trying to save other wounded soldiers after being
wounded himself.
I was named after Harold and would like to know if
anyone remembers him. What kind of soldier was he? How many jumps
did he make? What battles was he in? And how did he die? Any
news will help me and my aunts. His sisters are going to try and make it
to the reunion in Aug in Calif.
I also was told he use to hang
with a guy named Duran. I think he was a corpman too, any help? I
know that he received the Silver Star and the Purple Heart, which I hold
dearly.
Thank you so much for your time. Hope someone can
help me out. Thank you.
Harold L Daniels

I'm sure that Ruben Duran and his father Elbert can help Harold. Harold
Calvin Daniels was KIA next to his best friend Elbert who was seriously wounded
at the same time.--Ben
