Subject: MAIL CALL NO. 898 517TH PRCT-MAY11, 2004
Hello.

We get many request for information about friends or family members who served with the 517 sixty years ago. We have made several connections but  many times we have not been successful. However, if we can't get an answer for you the first time send your request again.  We keep getting new information and new members. John Bramswig has been persistent in seeking news about his father-in-law, Ed Marconi company A and in this Mail Call we have a new request from Tom Copsey looking for news about his father John who served with I Co.

Registration due before July 10, 2005!

Tom Copsey

Hi there, so glad I found your site and address.  I am the son of John F Copsey of company I who passed away last year.  I am trying to reconstruct his exploits and would love to chat with anyone who knew my Dad.  I am also potentially interested in the August reunion.

Pop told me of some of his exploits which I found captured in the book "Battling Buzzards"  Would love to find out more and eventually visit the places in Europe - wish I had made the Le Muy anniversary last year.

Cheers,
Tom Copsey

Dear Ben and Howard. Carl Kiefer is smiling from Heaven ! Why ? Because
at our Board meeting at our reunion in Palm Springs , Carl proposed that
we make all spouses, children , and , I believe, grandchildren , eligible
for associate membership in the Combat Team Assn . And now it will come
to pass . Oh, I forgot, after considerable, and appropriate, discussion
, the Board did not approve Carl's proposal , so it never came before
the membership at the regular business meeting. Good thinking , Carl .

My father in law Ed Marconi (deceased from Brooklyn NY) was in A
company.  Jumped into France, through the Bulge and wounded around
Schmidt Feb 6th.  Perhaps your people may recall his name?

Regards,

John Bramswig

Ben, please add Andrew's name of troopers hoping to get a jump certificate.

He is being transferred Thursday to a rehab center in the hopes they can get him strong enough to come home.  He is stable medically but still fragile and so very weak after being in bed for nearly six weeks.

A personal e-mail to Joyce:
Dear Joyce, June and I send our deepest sympathy to you and your family
on the passing of Leo.  To you, I send this poem, which I hope will give
you some sort of comfort.
One or the other must leave,
One or the other must stay.
One or the other must grieve,
    That is forever the way.
That is the vow that was sworn,
Faithful 'til death do us part.
Braving what had to be borne,
Hiding the ache in the heart.
    One, howsoever adored,
    First must be summoned away.
That is the will of the Lord,
One or the other must stay.

                God be with you, Joyce,

Ben,

Thanks for putting the jump certificate on the web site.  It is great to see what it looks like.  I spoke with my Dad and he does not remember receiving a certificate.  Is it possible that some troopers never got their jump certificates?  If so, is it possible to still get one at this late date?  My dad would like to have one to pass on to his children/grandchildren/great grandchildren).  Perhaps one could be generated and signed by their 517th Commander, or the current Battalion Commander of Jump School at Fort Benning?  I would be happy to have my graphic arts teacher here at school reproduce a certificate that would meet the 517th standards.  Let me know.

Ben,

After receiving this mail call, and seeing what Gene Frice wrote, I spoke with my dad.  He would like to be added to the list of troopers who would like a jump certificate if it is possible?  He went to jump school with Second Battalion, (I think he was in Regimental HQ at the time) and received his jump wings sometime in September 1943.

Hi Ben, so good to hear from you - bless you for what you have done and your doing mailcall and your son for doing the website.  Yes please pass on Pop's name to mailcall.

Just might make it to Savannah - where are you living Ben and where are you from originally?  Pop was born/raised in Washington DC and I currently reside in Crofton MD.  I attended the WWII memorial dedication last year and really enjoyed it , meeting your brethren from all the services.

Thanks again for responding Ben, and stay in touch.  Have your read the book Battling Buzzards - I am 3/4 through it and you guys are in the Bulge campaign.
