Subject: MAIL CALL NO. 900 517TH PRCT- MAY16, 2005
Hello

We are doing our best to reconstruct events  that took place over sixty years ago. It is difficult when we have confusing opinions, memories or records. Cleo Browning KIA in Manhay is not listed in a Military Cemetery . He has a headstone in Imperial. Nebraska which may be a memorial stone only. It has the wrong date of death. At one time he was listed as FOD. Clark Archer will send me what information that he may have.

2005 Biannual Reunion
August 15-19, 2005
Savannah, GA
Registration due before July 10, 2005!

Joyce Turco

Hi Ben,
I want to thank all of our friends from the 517 who gave their condolences to me and my family. Especially in today's mail from Juliana Stonis and Polly and Ray Hess. Wish I could attend the reunion in Savannah but it is too close to the time I need to get our affairs in order. Have had an offer to share a room with Helen and Dick Miller. Bob and Garnet also sent me a personal E-mail. We know we are all like a close knit family and the organization has brought us a lot of joy in our lives. Leo and I were married before the war so when he went over for the European war we had our son who was just a three month old baby. Lots of years and memories ago.
With love to all,   Joyce  (wife of Leo Turco).

Dear Mr Barrett,

I'm sending you a list with all causalities from the 517th across all American Military Cemetery across the world.

Apparently, Cleo Nelson Browning was not listed in a military cemetery !

I had found this list on Internet but I think that the website is close now. So' I safeguarded the list on my computer.

Soon, I will going to Henri-Chapelle and doing some researches for you...

About me, all is fine.  I'm so happy for this moment because, since yesterday, my book is print and I have a part of them at home.  This book look like the first but it is more interesting.   I have an exemplary for you and Mr Hensleigh etc...  If you can coming in Belgium in the months coming, I will be happy to offer you personally.  I will be so happy to meet you again and talk also with Mr Hensleigh who I'm in touch also.   So', I will give the books to Irma & Arnold from Trois-Ponts for you.  I think that they participate at your annual reunion in Georgia.  I'm so sorry to be not with you during this meeting.

Do not hesitate !  If you have some informations or reseaches that I can doing for you, it will be with a very big pleasure.

Do you remember, on your website, a member of the family of Cleo Nelson Browning researched some informations about his parent.  Does he know the place where Cleo was buried ?  I think that he was in touch with Mike Spano !

Hope that all is better for your wife and you.

Sincerely,

Eddy

Hi Ben,

Thanks for your help.

I've heard he is buried in Belgium or Imperial, Nebraska (Chase County). I'm enclosing a photo of his head stone at the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Imperial. It appears that the date of death is wrong. I don't really know if he is buried here or if this is a memorial. I've also heard he is buried in Belgium. Just a litle more confusion for the story. I'm trying to get some additional information from the cemetery.

At first I don't think he was even on the honor roll, I believe he was added after I made some inquiries. I think he was officially "FOD"?

From the stories I've received from Mike Spano and Fred Beyer it appears as he should be "KIA"

Thanks again,

Neal McAfee

I was thinking the date on the head stone might be the date of the memorial. I'm trying to get the records from the cemetery.

Yesterday, May 15,2005 Severin Ericson called to tell me that his wife Ida had died a few days earlier. She had been ill for a long time.

Swede was in the 517th PRCT Company "C" Infantry from Camp Toccoa until discharged from the paratroopers in 1945.

Swede and Ida attended several of our Biannual National Reunions, and the Western Regional  Palm Springs
Reunions.

Swede is still actively harvesting the large trees on his tree farm in Randle, Washington. He has been in the
big tree lumbering business for several years.

Hi Ben,

I talke to the clerk in Imperial, Nebraska today. The city owns and runs the cemetery. I didn't get any new information.

Here is a picture of Cleo Browning, It ran in the Imperial Republican newspaper on May 27, 1948. They were remembering the local soldiers that had been killed (Memorial Day).

Regards,
