Hi Ben,
This is for you, Ben, and for Lud.
One of you already sent the picture to me of you two at Floyd's final
resting place in Henri Chappelle. Thank you, again, for sending it.
I did make a hard copy the first time you sent the photo so I could show other
family members. I think you told me that the man in the red sweater was
Lud so I will assume the other man is you, Ben.
My Mom, Floyd's 89-year old sister, just happens to be visiting me from her
home in Missouri. It was so nice that I could show her the photo and let
her know how LOYAL the men of the 517th are until their last days.
Mom and I were wondering what the second line, under Floyd's name, might
say (on his cross). I have a feeling it might be Floyd's rank and outfit
but we couldn't read it. We were able to make out the third line. If
one of you has a moment, could you let us know what that second line says?
Thank you so much.
And YES, we all have known that Floyd has been in Henri Chappelle. It
was just a momentary thought I had (that he might not be there) after I read
some of the emails to the 517th site over the past couple of weeks.
I will continue to be a supporter of ... Airborne Forever
!!!

A Reminder For The Reunion in Savannah
I have been pleasantly
surprised with the phone calls that I have received regarding the 517th
Reunion. I have been talking to men who do not take the Thunderbolt or
receive Mail Call, but have been called by some of their friends that have the
Reunion information. These men are excited about coming to Savannah and
being a part of this Reunion. I want to thank those that have been in
touch with these gentlemen and have encouraged them to participate in our
reunion and to see people they haven't seen in years. Please continue to
contact your friends and encourage the men and their families to come to
Savannah -- it is great to hear the excitement in their voices when talking to
them.
Again, there is a Shuttle service provided by Gray Line Tours that
runs a shuttle from the Savannah International Airport to downtown Savannah
daily until 11:00 p.m. When arriving at the Savannah airport, you may
purchase a round-trip ticket for $20.00 or a one-way ticket for $15.00.
There is also taxi service with the fares being $20.00 for the first person, and
$5.00 for each additional person. The City of Savannah has permitted the
taxi drivers to charge an extra $1.00 per person because of the jump in gasoline
prices.
Keep the Registrations rolling in.........see you in
August.
