Registrations are still coming in so the numbers will even look
better. If you know someone that would like to come for the Reunion,
please encourage them to do so, but to get their Registrations in as soon as
possible. Also, they need to get their hotel rooms reserved. Saying
all of that.........We definitely will have a great time!!!
On a more
somber note, I received a call from Mary Ward, wife of James G. Ward. They
had sent in the Registration for the Reunion, however they will not be able to
attend. Mr. Ward has lung cancer and is now on oxygen and they now have
Hospice helping them. Please keep both of them in your prayers. If
anyone wishes to call them, the number is 931.484.4775.
See you in a
couple of weeks!!

Ben; Re Vence . The 596th Engrs lost two men in
the Var River bottom who were clearing a path through a minefield of
booby-trapped 155mm shells .These were hung on tight wires, as many of you will
remember . We lost one on the jump in . We had three killed in Italy when
they drove through the front line and were ambushed . I had sent my Exec to pick
out our next CP. It was the evening before the day we were relieved by the
442nd . We lost six when a truck load of Teller mines blew up during the time
our troopers were clearing all the flack
towers and Teller mines from the Nice Airport .This was a high priority mission
dictated by Shaef ( I guess) as they wanted to use Nice as an R&R
spot ASAP. Someone got careless and didn't deactivate all the mines? Who
will ever know. We lost one man in the Bulge . We had some men Vence for a
short time but no one was hurt there . Incidentally, Our mail clerk begged me to
let him jump in , as I had intended for him to come in with our tail. You
guessed it, He is the trooper we lost on the jump . By fate , maybe ?
: 11 of our men were from the 3rd Platoon. C'est la Guerre? We ,in the
Engr Co, were very close knit (as I know others were) so I remember
these casualties vividly. One of the men lost on the Var was an Olympic swimmer
and diver . In memoriam . Bob Dalrymple, former CO 596th

For Greg Silva. I remember a sgt. Holly from Hq.1st Bn. He was in Co.
Hq. or the comm. section I believe and did some work in organizing the
association for me. sadly I am aging And my memory is not perfect. I will ask
others at Savannah and see what they
know.
