One of the reasons for my going to Savannah was the fact that my radio
operator, James G. Ward (better known to me as JG) and his wife Mary would
be there. I'm saddened to learn that it won't be possible. I'll still
attend, but it won't be the same.

Dear Ben,

I attempted to send the following email to Mr. Dalrymple using the email address in the Roster but it was returned as an unknown address.  Would you be so kind as to forward it to him or provide me with a better email address.  thank you, joe richardson, jr.

        *********** Bob Dalrymple's correct address is bob596@laposadagv.net

Dear Mr. Dalrymple,

I read in the latest Mail Call your note on the loses of the Company.  My Dad, Joe Richardson was a member of D Battery 460 and he had several friends he spoke of often, two of which were members of the 596: Joseph A Stihel and Charles Ryznic.  Both are listed in the December 1944 roster.

Dad passed away in April 2004 and like many proud children of WWII vets I am trying to document his time in service. Dad visited Joe Stihel years ago and I believe he lived on Staten Island, New York. Any information on these two gentlemen or on my Dad would be greatly appreciated. Dad's picture is posted on the website with his 460th "Jumping Jackass" patch of his field jacket.  He is also wearing what looks like the Cross of Lorraine.  He told me once that it was given to the unit by the French Government.  Any information of the meaning of the cross would be helpful.

Thank you for any help you can provide,  all the best.

Joe Richardson, Jr.

In MailCall No. 946, Bob Dalrymple talked about the 2 young 596th engineers killed in Var, defusing mines.  There is a photo of Ernie Coffelt and Howie Jaynes on the photos page at:  http://www.517prct.org/photos/rome_1944.htm

Ben, I have a gut feeling that Howard Hensleigh is not receiving my
e-mails. He sent me one requesting information to locate Barry Zais, son
of Gen. Melvin Zais. I replied twice to Howard with no reply, and a
third, asking him if he had received my reply. Still no answer. So, I
will repeat my replies to Howard here in this e-mail.
My local library could not locate any Barry Zais in the Washington D.C/
Md. area. I contacted the National War college in D.C. They have no
Barry Zais on their present roster, nor on their past roster. I hope
Howard reads this. Send me his e-mail address and I will check my
address list.  Thanks!  See all real soon .

Subject: Missing names

Dear Howard,

Thank you for checking your causality list for the 4 men KIA in Vence France 27,28,& 29 Aug 1944. I assume the 517 did not have any KIA in that town on those dates.  If you did would you let me know asap.
We are printing the story you e mailed me about the 36th Div. in our monthly news letter. My best friend LTC  Marcel F. Pincetl (Major at the time) was XO of the 141 HQ & Hq 1/BN they were the first on the beach in So. France invasion and he led them. Tell all your 517th Members that all our 36th Division Chapter members say Hello and Thanks for your help now and especially  in WWII.
Godspeed,
