Hello,
Howard Hensleigh

Dear Joe:
We will miss you and your wife at Savannah.  We have always done what we
had to do.  You are doing that.  We will keep in touch by all the means
available and meet face to face when we can.
Now, that river identification–The Kall River separated Bergstein and
Schmidt; Schmidt is South and West of Bergstein.  We were supposed to get
to the Schwammenauel dam–save it from German demolition to avoid flooding
of the area that was key to getting into the industrial Ruhr Valley.  There
the Germans got most of their armaments.  The dam held back the waters of
the Roer River to the South of Schmidt, but the Germans blew the dam before
we could get there.  The Kall flows into the Roer a few miles almost due
North of the dam.  Our old friend, MG Rose (who Bill Boyle met at his
division Hq. in Manhay before he left it for us to retake on 27 Dec. 1944)
got through this area despite the flooding to encircle the Ruhr.  The
encirclement of the Ruhr took place in March of ‘45 on the day Rose was
killed as he led the division from the front.

Just received a newspaper clipping that our own L/Gen Richard J. Seitz (First CO
of the Original Rigger School) and early CO of Benning Jump School has been
Named "Distinguished Kansan" by Gov. Kathleen Sebelius and she has proclaimed
  August 16th as AIRBORNE DAY.

She named General Seitz as a distinguished Kansan for his 35 years of service
to the nation and his leadership in positions of responsibility in Airborne Units
  thru-out the US Army.

In case you have forgotten, L/Gen Seitz had a hand in the early days of the test platoon and other functions of airborne divisions organized in the US Army from the parachute test platoon. He was also CO of the 18th ABN CORP.

Ben,

Just a note to clear something up.  I have Floyd's footlocker.  It's in pretty good shape for everything it must have gone through.  I use it to store old clothes and things in my garage.  On the top it reads, "Floyd A. Stott," and then under it there are some numbers and possibly a letter indicator.  I think it reads, "0-13H445."  What would this be in reference to?  Is this Floyd's dog tag number or a way to identify each soldier?

Thanks, I know you are busy with reunion things...

Hello everyone......

The time is drawing near..........and I am busy!  The computer tells me that we have 279 people registered.  That is FANTASTIC!!  The FedEx trucks are pulling up to deliver things that I have ordered........so it must be close to the big day!

Once again, I am asking Ben to publish the directions to the DeSoto from all directions into Savannah.  For those that are driving into Savannah, please remember that we do have some aggressive drivers.  Also, please remember to get your parking pass for the parking garage when you check into the hotel.

I have gone over your registrations many times to make sure that the numbers are accurate.  I still have to phone a few of you for some food selections.

Hal and I are looking forward to meeting you.  I am especially looking forward to putting faces to the names of those that I have yet to meet.  This will be a great Reunion and I am counting down the days until we see you.  No hurricanes from August 13-21.......I promise.
