Hi Ben,

Mary and I wanted to share a few miscellaneous reunion pictures we just got
back....Hope these don't overstuff the 517th mail call server's musette bag!

Take care & all the best,

Mark Landreth

Ben; of the three photos Don Sliker sent into Mail Call 969, the middle photo is very familiar. I have a copy my dad, Roy Landreth, obtained somewhere along the way, and when I find it, will be able to identify all five men in the photo. But, from memory, I can report three of the men's names, On the far left is, I believe, Lt. Joe Kieselwicz (spelling?). Second from left is Roy Landreth and second from the right is Dave Hines. Like Don Sliker's father, my dad spoke very highly of Dave Hines, calling Hines his best friend. I'm sorry I missed this year's reunion, but if the July 2006 date holds firm, you can count me in for Portland (or wherever it may be). Mark

Hope this will be some help to you to identify the people in your pictures.  Picture 1 =Barbara and Donna Hillary, sisters.

Picture 2 =These are Gene Frice' daughters.  I don't know their married names but in the front row is Robin and Karen

Picture 3 =I have no idea

Picture 4 =You and Claire

Hope you had a pleasant trip home.

Dear Ben,

Hope you are ok. I was with my old friend Roland Orengo 2 days ago, who come back from the USA where you all met during the 517th reunion. He told me all the trip and it sounded fantastic. Roland particularly mentioned the warm welcoming by your members!

I think that Roland showed you an article I have written on the First Special Service Force which fought in Sospel Southern France close to the 517th – published (in French) in August. Actually, I am working on a similar article but dedicated to the 517th in southern France. I have just noticed the picture posted by Mr. Don Silker, and would be happy to get in touch with him in order to ask if it would be possible to use these pictures, all 3 seem to be taken in Nice / the area.

 Thanking you in advance,

 Have a good day,

Frederic

Hi Ben,

Thanks so much!  Yes, I have read both.  In fact, Paratroopers Odyssey
mentions Uncle Andrew which is wonderful.  I am hoping to get as much
personal information as possible.  I remember reading information on
obtaining personal records for someone in the military, but you have a
better chance being next of kin.  I wonder how difficult it is to replace
items lost.  I'm not sure what items, or how many, were lost in the flood.
I know my Dad said all of the photographs and his "papers".  I will write to
Mr. Jordan and Mr. Biddle and hope they can also help.  Thanks for
everything!

Michelle

Hi Ben,

I went to that site and read over the request form.  My dad and his
sisters would qualify for next of kin, but since I was hoping to surprise
them with the information, I will try the congressional route and hope it
works.  Thank you!

Michelle

Michelle is trying to find any information that she can about her uncle Andrew Murphy, the first member of the 517 KIA .Anyone who knew Andrew Murphy especially members of the 1st Bn.  please contact Michelle at m_sarver@hotmail.com--Ben

Joyce Turco

 Hi Ben,

It sounds like everyone had a wonderful time at the reunion. I do wish I could have attended as I told you Leo had his heart set on being able to attend. He was proud to be a "Director".
It looks like Charlie Cook had taken over his position and we know he will do a good job.
I have been busy going through old memories of all the trips to Europe we made. Just before Leo went into the hospital he had our daughter Carol who was staying with us run the tapes of our trips, one each evening. He got such pleasure reminiscing with us and seeing all the places we went with our friends. Some now passed away. We will have those memories to pass down to our great grandchildren.
Hope you are doing ok.  My best wishes go out to you and all our friends in the 517th.
Best wishes,  Joyce Turco widow of Leo A 460th

Yes, I am very interested in the auxiliary organization.  When ever it develops keep me in mind.
Dad really wanted to come to Savannah, but I couldn't get away from this new job.  I was promoted to Principal and sent out to the State Prison.  I am the principal and education director over all education issues for corrections education.
Can you tell me when the Palm Springs Reunion is scheduled for.  I think I can work that one into the scheduled.  I have been wanting to meet you also.  As I have said before the email site and the 517th organization has breathed new life into my Dad, and to his sons also.  Thanks for all you do.
Lory
Thank you Mr. Egner for your email on mail call regarding the information about the number of 517th troopers located east or west of the Mississippi.  Please call on me for any help you need.  I will be glad to assist.
