Subject: Mail Call NO. 99
Hello,
Not too many mistakes in last roster. Mostly typing errors. Please change the
date from April to May. Note errors in mail below and correct them on you
roster.

We are really beginning to click it helping members o find friends. In the
past week we have been able to connect Ed Winship with Dan Chapin, Ellsworth
Harger with Donald Boatright and help Doug Harris find members who knew his
uncle Douglas Emmons.

If I don't make a note below mail when questions are asked it is because I
have already responded to them by email.

Was hoping to go to the reunion in Bismarck since I have never been to that
part of the country but due to health reasons I will not be able to make it.
Every one have a good time and maybe I can make the next one.

Hi, Ben,

I really enjoy receiving Mail Call.   You're doing a great job!  I told my
dad, Ed Winship about the photo of he and Dan Chapin that you sent to me
They were good buddies, but dad lost track of Dan and was wondering what
happened to him.  Do you or any of the Mail Call roster have any info?  I'd
also like to hear from anyone who knew my dad.  He was in Company H.

While I served with the 517th from Toccoa to the end of the war, I chose
occupation with the 82nd; however, this is not reflected on my
Discharge.  Are there others who so served?  Does their time in
occupation of Germany reflect on their discharge?

I really enjoyed reading the last mail call (and all the others).

I find it interesting how the inquiries from members/family members tend to
weave through so many lives of the 517th.  Someone will ask for information
about a loved one and someone will answer or refer the question to someone
else and so on and so on.  I think eventually most inquiries are answered.

See what a great service you and son Bob did by starting Mail Call and
creating the website?  These are 2 more fragile threads that help to hold the
517th together as age creeps up on us and the numbers dwindle.

Who would have thought it would come to something as wonderful as this when
you and I put a piece of paper on the registration table at the reunion in
Palm Springs for people to put their e-mail addresses on?  I think we had
maybe 3 or 4 e-mail addresses on that paper and 2 of those were yours and
mine.

Thank you for making all this happen.

Dot Lubic

Dot was the inspiration for the website back then but I didn't have the
expertise to do anything at that time.
Dot with daughter Cathy handels "Mail Call" for me when I am unable to do so.
If she could only be able to correct my typing errors and spelling!

Thanks.  Have started sending the emails to Mr. Boatright.  I hope he will
recognize some of his old friends from the list.  I'm going to match your
email list against the 1944 Christmas Card Unit Roster for G Company and see
how may of G Company have email addresses.  Don't know if you may already
done this or not.

Hi Ben,
This is Elbert Duran's granddaughter.  I just wanted to let you know that you
have our e-mail down as lynzott@aol.com, and it should be lynzoot@aol.com.
Thanks!

Dear Ben:

Our numbers for the reunion are now at 207 with about three registration a
day coming in.  I think the number in the Thunderbolt as of 4/12/01 was about
160.

See you in about 3 weeks.

Ben:

Dallas Long's e-mail address is all in lower case. i.e.dllong@bellsouth.
Dallas is totally computer illiterate, but I print out everything for him.
He loves to hear from you and all about the 517th guys.  We both deeply
appreciate what you are doing.  Looking forward to seeing you in Bismarck.
