Hello Ben,
Hope you had a good weekend. I
received information from Clark Archer
yesterday! He sent a copy of
two photos and an information timeline sheet
for June 18, 1944. It was
very interesting, and of course sad at the same
time. I will have the
photos enlarged to get a better picture of Uncle
Andy. Thank
you!

Hi Ben ,
We just got back from the Toccoa
reunion. I met Mr. Louis Holzworth of the 517th. It was his first
time back to Toccoa in 62 years. He graciously allowed my family to view
his photos from his many albums. He was awarded 4 purple hearts for his
bravery. We also met a man who had met Mr. Tommy Fitzpatrick of Co. S
before he passed away in 2000. Mr. Fitzpatrick gave all of his memorabilia
to this man. We were the first people from the 517th he had ever met up
with in all his travels. He allowed us to photograph some of Fitzpatrick's
collection. Include were two old reunion photos. I will send them to
you soon. One was in '49 and the other was '67 I believe. I am sure
many of you will recognize your friends. He also had a parachute drop
roster sheet with signatures sheet and a huge map of the battles
drawn we believe by Spence - at least the art work looked similar. The map
has 12 photos and various points of interest. Mike had one printed for
me. It will be framed soon and I will send you a picture of it.
Another man from the 517, Sergeant Major Eric Anderson and his family
were there. They were at Savannah. Lance, his son had made both an audio
and video of General Seitz's speech. He will be putting his address
on line so you may order a copy of it for mailing cost. We had a good
time. I too have missed mail call, so I will be sure to send these photos
soon. My son Justin has finished one edition of General
Grave's story from the Blue Book magazine in December of 1947. I will mail
it to Bob directly. We wanted his input on how it was done, before he
did anymore. He ended up photographing it paragraph by
paragraph. I hope it is OK.
Take care,
Heather Riley

I was mistaken about his service time. Early on he was awaiting pilot
school and OCS. When they told him that the wait would be longer, he
joined the 517th. He graduated jump school and was sent overseas in
December 1944. ( D company 3rd platoon). So I guess he was probably
sent as a replacement, but where would he have gone? Were those guys sent
to Belgium or did they stay in France? I finally got a reply from someone
who knew him, but this fellow joined post-bulge, so he has no idea where he was
before that time. I am enclosing several photos hoping that someone might
look familiar.
