596th Parachute Combat Engineer Company
Below is a letter home that James had written to talk about his boyhood friend Herbert "Bruce" McLamb being killed in action while with the 596 (KIA 18 Sept 1944, and buried in Draguignan). "The letter was written about someone named Bruce who we believe last name to be McLamb. We believe Bruce and Mr. Benson to have been childhood buddies that were drafted and ended up together in the War. The letter is about Bruce being killed. The date I believe is 11/1/44 and location is Southern France."
