Dear
Ben,
Hope you
are doing well!
I permit
myself to revert to you regarding the interesting page dedicated to the
517th unit patch history, on the website.
I bring to
your attention some exemplars of the unit patch found in Nice, what would
confirm some theories about the local manufacturing. 3 similar exemplars are
known, all coming from Nice.
The city
having been transformed in a large Recreation Area, so many
US soldiers
stayed here until late 1945, and local workshops issued quantities of souvenirs
and patches. I attach the picture of Pvt Charles Boyle
and friends, who came back on the Promenade des Anglais in Nice on the
15th of June 1945, after
end of the war!! For sure they were willing to source additional patches to
bring back home!!
In
addition, could you please put me in touch with Mr. Les Hughes, who wrote the
interesting article about the patch?
Thanks in
advance for your kind collaboration.
Wishing
you a good day,
Best
regards,
Frederic

Dear Ben,
Clint Miller son of John G. "Buck" Miller, was kind enough to send me a
higher resolution scanned photo of my uncle Frank Barringer. It was taken
from his 517th Co. “C” group photo. Frank Barringer was killed April 13,
1945 Toulon, France while attached to the 45th Infantry Division, 179th Infantry
Regiment Company “F”. He is buried at Rhone American Cemetery, Draguignan
(Var), France.
Regards,
Shawn
