Hello Everyone!
I'm sorry to inform you that my Father, George
L. Ross, Seargent - F Company, passed away peacefully @ 0100
hrs Tuesday 2/27/07. Dads was always very proud of the 517th. He had many
life long friends from here. I think dad would have given the shirt off his back
to any one of them that needed it... and I believe this is not uncommon with you
guys!
My Family and I are very proud of my Dad...those that have
passed before him and all of you for the sacrifices you've made.

On behalf of Aimé Leocard family, we would like to thank so
very much all his friends, veterans , brother in arms, and family for the warmest
condolences and prayers you send. The funeral was very emotional but with
a lot of modesty like Aimé was. One more time at this occasion the french and
american flags flow together, side by side, remembering the great friendship
between our country.
Aimé spend his life to perpetuate this friendship, as our
teacher, we will walk in his shoes, follow this way, and continue his work for
the futures generations.

Ben,
I’m forwarding the following photos of may uncle Laurence Behringer
411th Airborne Quartermaster Company, 17th Airborne Division.
He is the
older brother of Frank Barringer who was attached at one time to the
517th. I understand your web site is dedicated to the members of the 517th
PRCT, 460th and the 596th.
But I was wondering if you would also add
the photos of my uncle Laurence as well since they were at one time all a part
of the 17th Airborne Division.
My uncle Frank and his father changed the
spelling of their last name from Behringer to Barringer because as my mother
tells me they thought it looked and sounded to German.
Thanks,
We will place his photo on the web site with his
brother. - Ben

Dear family and friends of Aime Leocard;
It is with sweet sorrow that we of the 5i7th PIR
receive the notice of the passing of a long standing true friend of this
remaining remnant of the rapidly dwindling 517th Regimental combat tem by the
passing of our own! Sweet? Sorrow? Sweet and pleasant relationship
with his constant friendship even to the many instances of friendship to the
end. Even the many cards at celebrated seasons of the years.
Sorrow with the family and friends in accepting the inevitable final
passing of a great friendly man.
Walter W Smith, HQ 1st

Barney Hekkala
Just a note to let you know that Dick Eaton, A Company, while visiting his
daughter Pam in southern California also had lunch and nice visit with Barney
Hekkala, A Company, and his wife Lee, this past month. Barney.

Note to Bill Goswick: Your uncle Jesse took part in all of the 517th
operations up until he was KIA in S. France. A short answer is that he
participated in the Rome Arno campaign in Italy, the airborne invasion of S.
France and all of our attacks in S. France up until his last one.
Battling Buzzards and the Paratroopers' Odyssey cover the formation of the
outfit and its complete history quite well. You can buy a copy a copy of
our history written by members of the 517th--Paratroopers' Odyssey from Bob
Christie who probably still has some for sale. Ben has the morning reports
on line; they are lengthy, but do contain information on individuals who were
wounded etc. each day.

I just want to say, thank you to the
vets of the 517th, for my freedom. I am a gulf war era vet and
paid-up-for-life member of the American Legion. I am also a ww2 re-enactor
and changing from a 101st a/b to a 517th impression, because I feel that
the unit doesn't get the recognition it deserves. Thank you again!
