Hi Ben, Just a
note to wish you and all of the 517th a great Reunion in DC. I wish I
could be there , however we will be moving into our Assisted Living Unit
sometime this week. Our health isn't too bad but I think it is time we
make the move.
Ben I'll be without my computer for a few days, I'll let
know when I'm back on line.
Have a great Reunion

Attached is a Word Document. It is a write up I did
about a box my mother sent my dad while in France. It includes some
interesting pictures.
I thought maybe you would include it on the 517th website
'Soldier's Story's.
It was sure nice of the two gentlemen in France to send us
this box. I want them to get full credit and acknowledgement for their
actions.
Hope you find this good reading.

Combat Team
by Col. Rupert Graves
in Blue Book Magazine
1947-1948
This three-part serial ran in the popular Blue Book
Magazine* on December 1947, January 1948, and February 1948. This was the
first account of the 517 to appear in a nationwide publication.
For many years, people confused the 517
Parachute Combat Team booklet, published at the
war's end, with these Blue Book magazine articles. Thanks to Heather
Riley, daughter of Ian Cowan (B Co.), we now have found copies of the original
Blue Book magazines, reproduced here. It turns out that these are not the
same as the unit history as recounted in 517 PRCT booklet. They are unique
stories written for the magazine. The first and longest story, about the
517th, was written by Col. Graves, the next two were ...[tbd]
These pages are photographs of the magazine's
pages. Some of them are very large photos, so you may have to zoom in or
out to read them. Over time, we will try to scan in clearer pages and make
them available in a better readable pdf format.
