My name is Travis Ellington, and my grandfather, Ed
Ellington served in the 517th from 1943 to 1945. He was in HQ company
1st Bat. I am currently working on a project to document his life; I
was young when he passed away, and although I was lucky enough to know him, I was
too young to realize what a tremendous sacrifice he made for his country and my
freedom. I have found a good number of pictures and documents, as well as
letters he sent home to his family members. If you would like, I would
like to give copies of these articles to you to be added to your website if you
could use them. I would also like to make contact with anyone who might
have any information on him.
Thank you for all the valuable information on
the website. Also if anyone has any tips that may help me in finding
information on my Grandfather, I would greatly appreciate it. I look
forward from hearing from someone soon!
Hi Dick,
The last time that you distributed something with Jim
Mortensen, I believe was a vital pack with critical
communication equipment on the jump into Southern France. To make
sure that it was delivered on the right time to the right place, you assisted
Jim. It is my understanding that the packet has never been found.
Ben
Dick Seitz
That's Jim's story. It was his equipment and he was responsible to
find it.

Hi Ben
Did Dick Seitz say anything about suing me for "inadequate
handling of the door load?" I don't think he will dare take that
step! If memory serves (and mine is awfully sharp) he was the
guy that helped me push that big bundle out the door . . . and he was
supposed to order the chute to open.
So, he either failed to
issue the order or the chute ignored him.
Either way, it's HIS FAULT
because he outranked me (a lot!!!).
Best
Jim Mortensen

Dear Mr Bolin,
The Mercedes incident and pictures can be seen here:
The incident is also described in Gerald Astor's "Battling Buzzards" as
well as in Col Graves's first hand account (Seen in the Blue Book Magazine
copies which are available on the
517prct.org website).
If I am not mistaken Steve Weirzba B Company shot the rifle grenade which
got the Mercedes driver in the head.
I have also heard that there were two other cars and two motorcycles in the
Mercedes "convoy", is that correct ?
I am writing an extensive narrative account about the 3 days on the
dropzones near Ste Roseline and Les Arcs and would be very happy to have a chat
with you by email and to learn more about these events.
My email is
Any anecdotes and first hand accounts about from DDay to DDay + 3 would be
more than welcome from anyone in the 517th family.
With kind regards,
Gilles

Ben,
I am responding re: distribution of movies. Wade does a great job
reproducing and mailing. He offered and did the same for our production
done by Don Adamski. He is truly a saint for all he does.
I took orders, along with a 5 dollar donation, (to the
auxiliary) originally to cover shipping but he then offered shipping
too.
I then sent the request to Wade via email and he had the DVD sent
directly to the requestor. That way it wasn't having to be shipped
twice. It worked very well and any donation then could go to the
organization.
This worked very well, just needed an order person, made life easier for
Wade.
Just a suggestion.
Karen
