Dear Ben, dear good friends of the 517th !

We never have so many words to express the gratefull we have of the award you all have presented to both of us.
we are so proud of it, this is now more than 15th years that we are working hard all our freetime to perpetuate the legacy of your great 517th combat team and this wonderfull 65th anniversary was the result of all these years.
We are here in south France and we always be there to perpetuate with the Museum and the celebrations in Le Muy the memory of the WWII "forgotten hereos" : Airborne "D" day 15th of august 1944.
We would like to dedicate this award to General Seitz, "father of the Museum" , to all of you not able to come back this year and to our friends passed away after all these year. they believe in us, and Their memory still in our hearts and in the soul of the Le MUY airborne Museum.
god bless you all dear friends, god bless America and "vive la France" !
Warmest regards

Dear Claire and Helen:  Congratulations on another outstanding Thunderbolt!  We don't know how you do it (and so quickly with all else you had going on in July and August), but you seem to outdo your superb work with each new edition -- each one is more outstanding than the excellent one before it.  Loved the individual pictures of the men in this issue.  Thank you very much for your dedication, artistry and excellent editing.  You should be very proud of your marvelous job.   Pat Seitz and Alan Greer

Hi Ben -

I've enjoyed the photos you posted of your "Grand Tour of Europe." Thank you for sharing them.

I was flipping through the television channels last night and landed on C-Span and a program entitled "World War II Remembered" that dealt with the 65th anniversary of D-Day.

I stayed on it for a while as the moderator asked questions. I was surprised when they worked their way through the distinguished panel and returned to the first vet and asked a question. That individual was LTG Seitz. Needless to say, I stayed tuned for the next hour.

Below is a link to the Eisenhower Library website wherein the program is described. While the website does detail some of the dates/times when the program showed, it doesn't refer to any upcoming broadcasts.

I'm glad you're back, I've been missing Mail Call.

Be well,
mark

Greetings 517th,
As the photos from the trip are filtering in and it looks like it was a very special journey.  Welcome Home ... Again.
Here's something for the travellers to consider. While the trip is still fresh in your minds and the dust is still on your shoes I thought it might be interesting if you could share your experiences.
I think your recollections would be very a interesting addition to the website.  I'm sure the 517th and it's families would love to read about your travels,  your thoughts, feelings, and instincts... the sights and sounds.
Personally, I'm interested to know what a soldier might reflect upon as he walks through the battlefields and towns that were once hostile now peaceful and free because of the efforts and sacriifices of himself and those like him.
Not to leave anyone out ... if the sons and daughters, and grand-children of Buzzards have something they would like to write I'm sure we would enjoy reading about your experiences.
Looking forwards to it.

Many Grins, Paul Abbene
