Howard, Ben and Tory,

It’s my pleasure to take care of Woody’s grave.

I was asked to give a tour at War Cemetery Margraten on the 13nd of January 2010 to a US High school class that’s on a trip in Europe for the WWII Battlefields. I will also take them to Woody’s grave and tell them the story.

 “Lest Forget”

Best to all

 Ronald

Any info on Sgt. Wendell J. Tinger, who was killed in World War 11

Hey Ben, this is for Chris Lindler,

Chris, the 10th Mtn. Div. trained at Leadville Col. at Camp Hale during WWII, which is near Vail. two years ago I went on a dog sled ride there. There is basically nothing there now but a few concrete columns.. Bob Dole was a member of the 10th Mtn. when he was badly wounded in Italy.. There was I believe, a member of the 517th that had trained with the 10th Mtn., I can't remember who it was, maybe Mr. Howard Hensleigh can help there. There is a nice museum in Vail which displays a lot of the 10th Mtn. memorabilia. Be cool jumping. Morris McDowell.

Dad,

I just got around to posting a couple more items to the web site, including this biography of Floyd Stott recently sent to me by Kent Immerfall.  I thought it was appropriate to get this done by today, since Stott was killed in the Manhay battle on December 27, 1944, 65 years ago today.

Yes, he was my uncle and mothers brother.  I really was too little then, but would like to know how he was killed and when and where.  Thank you.

I believe that all (17?) KIA at Manhay was due to artillery falling short-Ben

Hi Ben:

I want to thank Morris for the info the 10th Mountain Division it sounds interesting.  Maybe
someone in the 517th will remember who was in the 10th Mountain Division.

Also, if Leo is reading Mail Call (I do not know if he uses the computer) I would like to make another parachute jump with him at the Mini.

Have a happy New Year all.

Chris

I came across this quote a while ago, probably very well know, but not to me.  I have since seen it attributed to several different folks.  Doesn’t matter who originated it – it hits the mark.

“It is the Soldier, not the reporter,
who has given us the freedom of the press.
It is the Soldier, not the poet,
who has given us freedom of speech.
It is the Soldier, not the agitator,
who has given us the freedom to protest.
It is the Soldier who salutes the flag,
serves beneath the flag,
whose coffin is draped by the flag,
who gives that protester the freedom
to abuse and burn that flag.”

We had to take Mom to the Beaumont Baptist Hospital last night
around 6:00 p.m. Mom was running 102 fever and was acting very
confused. We found out this morning that she has pneumonia and O.T.L.
(Ovary Tract Infection) But she is doing better this morning though.
They will keep her 24 to 48 hrs. then we will take her back to The
Meadows. Her talking was doing better but this kind of caused a minor
set back.
Keep the Prayers  a coming,,,
