I found this 1946 paper reviewing the history of the “Airborne Command and Center”. It describes the early formation, recruitment, training and organization of the Airborne forces, mostly pre-517th.

One sample: As they were looking for new paratroopers at Fort Bragg, “… Colonel Lee stated that misfits, slow-wits, stupid and physically awkward men, chronic drunkards, habitual AWOL's, and offenders of military discipline would be promptly returned to their units.” [Page 8]

This 7-year old is absolutely fantastic....but,
when will the announcers at games and events take it upon themselves to
announce to the audience the correct way to honor the singing
of
Our National Anthem??? It is a disgrace to watch
the officials and athletes stand around, pick their noses, and everything
except do honor to our country.
*This young man sings the National Anthem prior to a college
basketball
game. *

I ran across this UK site by a “living history group” for the 1st Airborne task force. It has a short but interesting write-up about the 517th.
