My grandfather was Herbert Koehler of 2nd Bn, F Co. I believe he was in 3rd Platoon with Clifton Land. Mr. Land (I believe) mentions my grandfather as the friend who shared some creamed corn with him on his birthday during the Battle of the Bulge. Records indicate that my grandfather was wounded on 4 Jan 44 at Mont de Fosse. If Mr. Land or any of his relatives see this, I'd love to know more about him to know more about my grandfather's story.

My grandfather is LtCol Rupert Davidson Graves, USA(Ret). I am his proud granddaughter and I thank you for sharing this media. The Colonel is buried in Hendersonville NC next to his beloved Katherine. He was a believer in our Lord Jesus Christ and thus now resides in heaven with the advanced party of the 517th RCT that he so wholly loved. Thank you all!

My great grandfather was Cpl. Dwight L Spotswood of service company in the 517th. He served with the regiment from 1943-1945. I have several photos of him from what I believe to be operation dragoon as well as some from the action the regiment saw in Italy. I would love to upload these photos on the site but I haven't had any luck with the webmaster email. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I would love to share his story and cement his legacy on this site.

Admin reply: I am currently traveling but with work with you to see if we can add your info to the website. We'll talk in October! - BB

Eugene A "Gene" Kreyche (Uncle Bud to me) passed away in January of 2022 at age 97. He was a member of Company E, and I coaxed him into interviewing for the Veterans History Project (VHP) in 2008. That interview and his diaries are now archived with the Library of Congress thanks to the VHP. I'm sorry that I didn't think sooner to write of his passing. He was humble and private about his war experiences and suffered from anxiety during his final years. I can't help think the extreme circumstances of his wartime experiences as a young man contributed to this fragile mental state. You may search on his name to find his online obituary to see that he lived a vital and fulfilling life. I loved him dearly and am grateful that this site is still here to honor his service and those of his fellow soldiers.

My grandfather served in the 460th. I have his photos from when he was over there, and once I get them all scanned I'll put them up on my wordpress page at WestFargoMusings. God speed to all those who gave their lives so far from home back then.

Thank you for this incredible site! My grandpa served in the 460th Company C. It's been a great tool for learning about his service.

I was curious if anyone out there might have any additional photos or stories to share of this unit? Interestingly, I've never been able to find any sort of group photo of my grandpa's unit. If one exists, it would be great to see it!

Greeting and many blessings to all family and friends of 517th troopers. I am the nephew of Sgt. Andrew J. Murphy, who was the first confirmed KIA of the regiment. My uncle is mentioned and pictured in the book, "Battling Buzzards: The Odyessey of the 517th Parachute Regimental Combat Team 1943-1945." He is mentioned on pages 103 and 205 and is in a group picture on the ninth page of pictures (in helmet holding Tommy gun). My family continues to try and find pictures/stories of my uncle, especially as a member of the regimental boxing team. Battling Buzzards mentions a close friend was Edmund "Dog" Jordan and wonder if his family may have any photos or stories to share. We are dedicated as many of you are to preserving and continuing to share the courageous stories of the 517th with generations to come. Thank you for all your support and dedication.
