My father James Moats was in the 517th PRCT G company. He was WIA in Sept. 1944. Any information regarding my father would greatly be appreciated. I have his jump pants and photos including the 1943 Parachute Training Manual.

I see on my father's 1945 VA discharge card that he was a PFC with the 517th Airborne Signal Company when discharged on 9 28 1945. He passed in 1997.

Anyone remember a skinny PFC with brown curly hair and perhaps some acne on his face?

He probably went by DALE DARNELL, although his given name was Aubry Dale Darnell.

Thanks.

I am enjoying looking at this great web site. My Grandfather was William (Bill) Lewis and he used to be Secretary(?) for the 517 and may have published some news letters for the 517. Again, great site.

my father Raymond E. Lincoln was in A Co. 517th and passed away in April of 2001. Always proud and never backed away from a fight for what was right. One time 3 of his buddies came to vist at once. What a time we had. Fishing. eating and drinking. So fortunate for me to spend time with these guys!

I was at the cemetery today cleaning up a few grave sites and one was my Uncle Robert Joseph Rock, 517 Parachute Inf. Reg., Co. C, Staff Sargent, US army. I used this information to find this web site and found out a lot about Uncle including that he received a Purple Heart. He was from Toronto, Ohio and served during World War II. He played football in high school and also was on a team in Nice, France that won a championship game. I was real close with him and sat many evenings and also in the farm fields talking and learning from him. He did not share any combat information with me or any of his other cousins but we knew he was proud to be in the U.S. Army. He wore his uniform often and I have a picture of him with me and 5 of my cousins in his sump boots and pants. He was a wonderful Uncle to us and we love and miss him and his strong character and leadership. God bless you Uncle and all of the great generation that fought for our freedom. Dick Smith

Admin reply: Sgt. Rock is in a couple of pictures with that football team: http://517prct.org/photos/miller2.htm

I am an (almost) illiterate cumputor 517 vet. When I discovered this wab site in 2000 or so, it was too late, physicaly, to attend any of the reunions. I would love to hear from any of the Heaedquarter I&R platoon members that are still around.

I am trying to find out about my good friend, Danny Coleman who lived in Charleston, SC. It has been a year or more since I have heard from Danny and I wonder about his present status if anyone can tell me. I have forgotten what company Danny was in but he always enjoyed coming back to Toccoa for a visit.
