My Uncle James E. Pease was in the 517th. Tuesday April 25th he passed from a heart attack in Union, S.C. For many years he has been battling Alzhiemers. He fought a brave fight. Aunt Edith passed away 3/1/2005 for any of you who might have had the pleasure of knowing her. Russ Pease

I initially found this site a few years ago as I was researching my great-uncle Pvt. Robert A. Harp who was KIA in Belgium. Since then I have joined the Army myself as a 2LT in the Chaplain Candidate Program. What that means is that I am a reserve soldier while I complete my seminary degree. I leave next week for training at Ft. Jackson.

Even though I never met my great uncle, I now feel much more connected to his memory as I begin to serve my country in the U.S. Army. Again, thanks to all of you who continue to honor the living and the fallen among your ranks. HOOAH!

My Great uncle is Casmir Brudzinski. I just had lunch with him today and talked with him about my war (Iraq), his war and the 517th. I am not sure, but I think that he was in B Co (actually whatever company Pvt Biddle was in). He was evacuated from the Bulge on or around 27 DEC 1944 with trench foot after helping a wounded buddy to the company aid station. Does anyone know if there was a unit citation or award for the Regiment given for its actions during the Battle of the Bulge? Uncle Ky (what he goes by) said that he had heard during past reunions that the Regt recieved something, but was not able to track it down. He has no computer so doesn't even know about this site to ask or search around. Anyone have an idea?

Thank you for a wonderful resource. A friend and I are working on a role-playing game to be set during WWII. Our first campaign will follow the 517th, to honor this brave and under-appreciated unit. I am only 24, and I am glad to see websites like this one to preserve the memory of an important time.

I am the second daughter of John R. Gogoleski
I just decided to google his name and found it on an award list for individual decorations and Awards. My dad passed on December 20, 2004. He often talked about his time with the 517th. I think it was the best time of his life. Thank you.

My Grandfather, Ted Bowman was in the 517th. I wrote on this site for him awhile back, and those of you who called and wrote to him, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. He enjoyed each and every call, letter, and conversation.

Saturday April 28th my grandfather passed away due to complications caused by cancer. Once again, like many years ago, he fought a brave fight.

I write this here for thoese of whom who did get to speak to him, share in his knowlage and experiance. He will be missed by so many, but he will always be in our hearts.

I'm trying to hunt down a paratrooper's unit/division as I own his jump jacket. His last name was Pettyjohn. I've looked at the 517th pretty closely through this great website without any luck. If anyone has a roster list from 11th or 13th airborne I'd appreciate any assistance they could provide.

My Grandfather Was Leland A. Tripp. He was my mentor and hero all through my childhood. during his lifetime he told only the shortest and most mundain stories of his service in the 517th. He was quietly proud, but uncomfortable telling stories. After his death he allowed my grandmother to release a short essay he wrote only months before his death. The essay mentions his service both in A Co. and in an MP Co of some kind.Does any one know what that MP unit's designater was? He made no mention of any other units he served with though I know he served with several.
I am an Infantryman who became an MP and seem to have followed in my grandfather's footsteps a little more closely than I had realized. I am, admittedly a striaghtleg grunt but I am hoping that there are still one or two old paratroopers who might have known Lee Tripp and would be willing to share a story or two.
Grandpa always sead that there wasn't any one he knew at the reunions because he got in too early but I cant believe he was the only early paratrooper. You guys are the very last of a very special breed. Thank you for your service, and your sacrifice.

I am looking for information regarding my grandfather, George H. Cole. He along with my grandmother, and father have passed away. I have very limited information to work with. I know that he trained at Camp Toccoa, was in the Battle of the Bulge, received a Purple Heart and a ronze Star. I was able to get that he was part of the 517th from his tombstone. I attempted to retrieve his military records, but was told they were burned in the fire of 1973. I would appreciate if knew him or could provide me with additional information about how to obtain his war records I would appreciate it very much. I can be reached through the following email address darcole@sbcglobal.net. Thank you so much for your time and attention.

Sincerely,
Sarah Cole
