Hi All,

I am Adam from the UK. Have been an Airborne enthusiast for not sure how many years now, and an avid collector of WWII memorabilia. I am currently working on a book about the actions of the 517th, 551st and 509th during the Battle Of The Bulge. Me and my father have rented an apartment in Belgium especially for research purposes and are over most weekends. Any help regarding the 517ths actions in Belgium, do please E-mail me, i'm especially interest in veteran accounts.

This is a great website, and a god send and its great being able to spend hours searching through the hundreds of photos the website provides.

To all those who served in the 517th PRCT, thank you.

Regards to all, hope to get to know you all soon.

Adam

My grandfather, Virgil F. Dunlevy, was a Sergant in the 517th paratroopers division, 82nd Airborne Infantry.
I am just starting to look into his military history. Any help would be greatly appreciated. He passed away in 1970, at the age of 50, in Dayton, Ohio.

“Documenting & Preserving the Personal Experiences
of World War 2 Veterans Since 1998”

January 27th 2008

Dear Fellow Veteran:

In 1998, I began my project to collect stories from World War 2 veterans and their families for the purposes of preserving and presentation to today’s youth, adults and future generations before these memories will one day no longer be available.

My collection of over 215 World War 2 stories has received appreciation and recognition from the General Patton Memorial Museum at Chiriaco Summit in California where it is exhibited during special events.

Please contact me to discuss the details of my project, and how you can be an important source of World War 2 history by telling your story about your personal military service and sacrifices.

Participant references and testimonials regarding my work are available.

Very respectfully,

Peter D. Minix
Former SGT. U. S. Marine Corps
Former California Army National Guard Member

Thanks for a great website. My late husband, David Walls, was a member of E Company, Camp Toccoa, he rarely met any other soldier who had even heard of it! I appreciate visiting the site, especially the photos, he was fighting at the Col de Brau and we drove there in 1963. He rarely spoke of the war and now he is gone we can't query him about his service.

My Uncle was Wayne S. Jackson, a squad leader in I the Ist Platton, Company C, Ist Bat. of the 517th. Checking the website, I saw where someone wanted my address. Like most veterans, Wayne, was reluctant to talk to others about his experiences. The interesting thing he did was jump at Normandy, and I have been unable to find any record in the outfit of that event. He said a few men from the "outfit" were chosen to make the jump to give them a combat jump. It's in his service record so I know he made it. I would appreciate hearing from anyone knowing about the troopers who made that jump. I contacted Colonel Boyle and he did not remember that for certain, but did remember some men from C company doing something unusual.
