My collection of over 215 World War 2 stories has received appreciation and recognition from the General Patton Memorial Museum at Chiriaco Summit in California where it is exhibited during special events. Please contact me to discuss the details of my project, and how you can be an important source of World War 2 history by telling your story about your personal military service and sacrifices. Participant references and testimonials regarding my work are available. Very respectfully, Peter D. Minix Former SGT. U. S. Marine Corps Former California Army National Guard Member

Thanks for a great website. My late husband, David Walls, was a member of E Company, Camp Toccoa, he rarely met any other soldier who had even heard of it! I appreciate visiting the site, especially the photos, he was fighting at the Col de Brau and we drove there in 1963. He rarely spoke of the war and now he is gone we can't query him about his service.

GREAT SITE! My Grandfather was John T. Holbrook with the 596th Airborne Engineer Company. After the war he went on to become a Doctor in Texas. He passed away in June 1980.

My Uncle was Wayne S. Jackson, a squad leader in I the Ist Platton, Company C, Ist Bat. of the 517th. Checking the website, I saw where someone wanted my address. Like most veterans, Wayne, was reluctant to talk to others about his experiences. The interesting thing he did was jump at Normandy, and I have been unable to find any record in the outfit of that event. He said a few men from the "outfit" were chosen to make the jump to give them a combat jump. It's in his service record so I know he made it. I would appreciate hearing from anyone knowing about the troopers who made that jump. I contacted Colonel Boyle and he did not remember that for certain, but did remember some men from C company doing something unusual.

My husband, David Hines Holmberg, was named for his mother (Laura Hines Holmberg)'s brother, David T Hines, who we knew had died in the Battle of the Bulge and whose gravesite we'd been able to visit. It was unsettling but good to find your website when I happened to look for information about him after watching the Burns' episode on that battle. Thank you all for continuing to make this site so helpful to descendants. Special thanks to Don Sliker for what is one of very few photos of David Hines and to Mark Landreth for your message about your father's friendship with him.

I am trying to find addintional info about my father, Alvin Schultz, who served in a special forces unit of the 517th, I believe, based on a photo of his that was taken during the war..On the back of the photo he wrote "the 517th a tough bunh of guys"..He told me very little of his experiances in the war no matter how much I pleaded. He did say that he did missions behind the german lines and worked with the french resistance and took part of an assisnation of a french official I believe was Philippe Henroit..The Vichy French propagandist..An amazing story of how I found that out itself..He told me that his unit was dettached and that no records were kept..And unfortunately his records were lost in the fire at St. Louis in the 70's..He told me he was on the beach at D-Day with a green stripe on his helmet and stopped the war for a few minutes by dancing with the jitterbug champion of Chattanoga, Tenn. There is more I could go into but I would like to find out more about the brave men of the 517th and would like to here from anyone that can help..Please contact me 920-238-9781 if you can provide me with any direction you may be able to offer...Thank you very much..Kelly Schultz

I am so excited that I found a picture of my Grandfather. His name is Antonio Salinas, and he was in the HQ 3rd Battallion. It really made his day; especially because all of his pictures have gone missing. Also, in the battalion picture there is a soldier to the left of him who is unnamed. My Grandfather believes his name is Alex Ferra.
