My Grandfather Gerald W. Larson served for two years with the 517th. He was wounded on two ocasions, and passed away in 1995. He never talked about the war, service and his experiences. I know he fought with nightmares for many years as a close friend perished in his arms. I am deeply honored by all our veterans of the 517 who proudly served our country and thank you for our freedom. I am hoping someone can help me link the pieces or may remember him. He went by Jerry Larson from Minnesota! I can be reached at 218-736-5371.

Name: 2LT David Jordan From: Shawnee, OK E-mail: david.f.jordan@us.army.mil |
I initially found this site a few years ago as I was researching my great-uncle Pvt. Robert A. Harp who was KIA in Belgium. Since then I have joined the Army myself as a 2LT in the Chaplain Candidate Program. What that means is that I am a reserve soldier while I complete my seminary degree. I leave next week for training at Ft. Jackson. Even though I never met my great uncle, I now feel much more connected to his memory as I begin to serve my country in the U.S. Army. Again, thanks to all of you who continue to honor the living and the fallen among your ranks. HOOAH!

Name: Douglas Urbanski From: St Paul, Mn E-mail: douglas.a.urbanski@us.army.mil |
My Great uncle is Casmir Brudzinski. I just had lunch with him today and talked with him about my war (Iraq), his war and the 517th. I am not sure, but I think that he was in B Co (actually whatever company Pvt Biddle was in). He was evacuated from the Bulge on or around 27 DEC 1944 with trench foot after helping a wounded buddy to the company aid station. Does anyone know if there was a unit citation or award for the Regiment given for its actions during the Battle of the Bulge? Uncle Ky (what he goes by) said that he had heard during past reunions that the Regt recieved something, but was not able to track it down. He has no computer so doesn't even know about this site to ask or search around. Anyone have an idea? Douglas Urbanski Admin reply: 1st Battalion was awarded a Presidential Distinguished Unit Citation: http://www.517prct.org/documents/presidential_distinguished_unit_citation_1st_bn_517_pir.jpg
