Gentlemen, I'm the son of Robert Heber who served with the 517th in France. He passed away Jan. 13th 2010 at 88 yrs old. I had and have the greatest respect for him and the men of your generation. Sorry to hear this will be your last reunion, but wish all of you the best. If anyone knew my father and would like to respond please feel free. I think his nickname was "Cleaver" as people teased him about his little hometown paper from Harrison Mi he recieved named the Clare county Cleaver.

Years ago a friend of mine gave me a 1922 silver dollar engraved on the back, Albert A Delgado, 517 Parachute Inf, France 1944.

In researching the coin I learned that Albert A Delgado enlisted in October 1943. By May of 1944 he was fighting the Germanys in Italy as a member of the 517th Parachute Infantry Combat Team. That August he jumped into France, as part of the breakout from the Normandy beachhead. He was there in December when the Germans throw everything they had left at the Allies in what became known as the “Battle of the Bugle.” A month later near Maumee, Belgium Albert was killed in action.

I'm happy to report that with the help of members of the 517th, I was able to locate Albert's nephew. I have since given him the coin, some pictures of Albert in action in Italy, France and Belgium, and a letter from Albert's squad leader!

Thank you to all who helped me, and thank you for your service and sacrifice on behalf of our country!

My father, Raymond Bunce was in Company F for the Battle of the Bulge (June 24th 1944) where he was injured for the first time. I would love to learn more about his service experiences. He passed away in 1996 only speaking of his experiences in the last few years of his life. I have some pictures with other soldiers but have no way of identifying them. Would love to share information.
