I was going through letter's of my grandfather Byron Carroll tec 5, D-Battery 460th and came across a transfer to H.Q. 460th in March of 1945. His job was an Orderly or Aid to staff. If someone from H.Q. know's him, I would like to get in contact with you. Byron was the OLD GUY he was in his mid 30's at that time. I've been working on D-Battery photos, if people have some, I would really appreciate scanned copys (pdf, jpg) of them to add to the colletion. E-mail or call 916-412-7227

Raymond E. Markley was my father. I was re-reading his WWII journals today and decided to see what i could find out about his unit, the 517th. I am proud that he is my father and proud that he fought with men as honorable as those of the 517th airborne.

My father, David Harrison Armstrong was in the 517th during WWII. I have just been through boxes of the paratroopers activities in August 1944, etc. My father died in 1964 at the very early age of 52. He was a Lt. Colonel at end of war.

My uncle, Johnnie Bland ( Co F, 517 PIR ) passed away today (Tuesday, Jan 11, 2011) He had lived in Georgia. if you knew him or had any stories to share, I would love to hear from you.I used to love to hear him talk about the outfit and his recollections of WWII. He had a high regard for the officers and men of the 517th.

Will Jessie Ellington Jr. please contact me? You recently submitted photos of your father. In the photo of the 2 men standing in front of a car, which one is your father? The man on the right looks alot like my grandfather. They both were in A Company and both from Ohio.

My grandfather, Virgil Frances Dunleavy (sometimes misspelled Donleavy), was in the 517th PICT. He is listed in the 1944 Christmas roster as a Corporal. There is also a photo of him in the book Battling Buzzards. He is smoking a cigarette right before a jump. This is where his name is misspelled. There are also photos of him that Joseph Brody's son submitted.
Virgil passed away in 1970 at the young age of 50. I was 13 at the time. I do have his Purple Heart. I am looking for any information on him. I will be at the mini reunion in Florida in January. My mother, his daughter, will be with me.

My brother-in-law, Robert A. Button, was in the 517th . He passed away Dec 2, 2010. His discharged papers indicated he received the Silver Star and the Bronze Metal. The Bronze he received was for his actions in the operation at de Muy, France.
Does anyone remember him. If so, I would appreciate
hearing about it.

My father, Gabriel Delesio, was a member of the 517th. He is 88 years old and still lives on his own in Newtown Square, PA. He would be thrilled to hear from anyone that remembers him. I would like to buy him a subscription to the Thunderbolt.
